A Ferrari F40 replica is currently available for purchase on Facebook Marketplace, priced at €14,999 ($17,300).

This imitation is built on a second-generation Audi TT featuring a 3.2-liter V6 engine and a 6-speed DSG transmission.

The vehicle boasts significant visual alterations, including extended front and rear sections.

For many car enthusiasts, owning a Ferrari F40 seems like an unattainable dream, especially given the soaring prices of this legendary supercar in recent years. However, if you're willing to pretend to be someone you’re not and can deceive those who can’t differentiate the real deal, a budget-friendly replica might be the answer. For the daring, one such F40 lookalike is up for sale in France.

Upon first inspection, the model resembles a life-size version of the unlicensed Ferrari-inspired plastic toys from the 1990s. However, a detailed examination of the greenhouse reveals the unusual original vehicle that underpins the custom bodykit.

Unlike most replica makers who typically base their creations on a Pontiac Fiero, this one is constructed using a second-generation Audi TT from 2010. Besides the greenhouse, pillars, and roof, it retains the doors, mirrors, and fuel cap from the German coupe. Everything else has been modified, resulting in a wannabe supercar with considerably longer front and rear overhangs.

The front tries valiantly to mimic the F40, featuring similar bumpers and headlights, though it's unclear if the pop-up lights are functional. The bulge on the hood, surrounded by NACA ducts, may have been necessary since the engine remains in front of the passenger compartment rather than behind, as seen in the true F40.

Even without a twin-turbo V8 in the back, the rear design is somewhat reminiscent of the original. The model sports the iconic F40 rear wing, albeit with T32 lettering on the sides; it seems the builder wants to avoid any legal issues with Ferrari, which is understandable. Additionally, it incorporates three exhaust pipes, quad round taillights, and four faux vents on the rear fenders, which are noticeably wider than standard, aligning with the broader tracks and tires.

The seller has not included interior images, which likely remain unchanged. This implies that the F40 imitation features a 2+2 seating configuration, offering some practicality advantages over the original. The main downside, however, is restricted access to the cargo space due to the added bodywork at the rear.

Interestingly, the original Audi is equipped with the 3.2-liter TFSI V6 engine that was available at the time, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. This six-cylinder engine produces 247 hp (184 kW / 250 PS) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque in its standard configuration, preceding the more potent TTS and TTRS models, which utilized turbocharged four- and five-cylinder engines respectively.

If you're interested in purchasing this vehicle, the Audi-based F40 replica is situated in the Taradeu region of southeastern France and is available on Facebook Marketplace for a firm price of €14,999 ($17,300). While this may seem steep for what you get, considering that two genuine Ferrari F40s were sold for over €3.5 million ($4 million) earlier this year, if this replica suits your taste, it might just be a bargain.
