Buick has introduced a refreshed version of the Electra E5 specifically for the Chinese market.
This crossover boasts an estimated electric range of over 373 miles.
In its highest configuration, it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.4 seconds.
General Motors provides a variety of electric vehicles, including the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the highly luxurious Cadillac Celestiq. However, Buick stands out as it currently does not have any electric vehicles available in the United States.
Originally, Buick intended to launch an EV in 2024, but the model was delayed last summer. GM CEO Mary Barra suggested that the postponement was due to slower-than-anticipated adoption of electric vehicles. Nevertheless, it was commonly thought that the company aimed to import the Electra E5 from China, before the U.S. imposed a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs.
Recently, Buick has unveiled the updated Electra E5. The changes seem significant, as the crossover features a simpler and more refined design. The most noticeable alteration is the replacement of the faux grille with a new shark nose front end, complemented by a sportier bumper featuring smooth curves and subtle chrome details.
While most of the design elements have been carried over, there may be slight updates such as new wheel designs. Buick has mentioned that the crossover includes “47 enhancements across design, performance, intelligent technology, and everyday convenience.”
The E5's exterior dimensions remain the same as the previous model, measuring 4,892 mm (192.6 in) in length, 1,905 mm (75.0 in) in width, 1,684 mm (66.3 in) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,954 mm (116.3 in).
Buick has stated that the crossover will exceed a range of 373 miles (600 km). This is not too surprising, as the existing model features a 79.7 kWh battery that allows for a maximum range of 620 km (385 miles). There are also options for 68.4 and 65 kWh batteries, alongside front and all-wheel drive configurations. In its most powerful version, the current E5 can reach 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.4 seconds.
Although pricing details have yet to be revealed, it is anticipated to be consistent with the outgoing model, which starts at 169,900 yuan, roughly equivalent to $23,700 at the current exchange rate.
