Opel is eager to generate excitement about its new electric Mokka GSE.
The GSE is built on the same platform and shares its powertrain with Alfa Romeo’s Junior Veloce.
The Mokka features a single-motor, front-wheel drive configuration that should produce 278 hp.
Different manufacturers have unique methods for camouflaging their prototypes. While Hyundai prefers to cover its upcoming vehicles with black sheets and foam blocks to conceal their shapes, Opel’s Mokka GSE seems to be striving for attention, as if it were running across the field naked during last weekend’s Champions League final.
The eye-catching yellow and black wrap, along with the bold ‘OMG!’ slogan on this sporty crossover, connects with a teaser campaign released by Opel earlier this month aimed at promoting the brand's latest GSE model and signaling a new direction for future GSE vehicles.
Previously available only with hybrid powertrains, the sporty GSE badge will now feature an exclusively electric lineup, with the Mokka in these images being the first GSE EV. It serves as the top trim for the existing electric Mokka crossover, positioned as Opel's equivalent to the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, with all three utilizing the same Stellantis platform.
While Opel has yet to confirm the specifications for the production GSE, it has mentioned that the rally version will utilize a single, front-mounted motor delivering 278 hp (207 kW / 280 PS) and 345 Nm (255 lb-ft) of torque, which aligns perfectly with the specs of the Abarth and Alfa. Abarth also provides a less powerful variant of the 600e, generating 237 hp (240 PS / 175 kW) and taking 6.1 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), as opposed to 5.8 seconds for the stronger model; it remains unclear if Opel will offer a similar option.

From what we know about its Italian counterparts, the GSE is equipped with a 54 kWh (51 kWh usable) battery, which will likely be insufficient for anyone wary of charging stations as it’s only estimated to achieve around 200 miles (320 km) of range, with a max charge rate of a disappointing 100 kW.
The larger wheels contribute to the limited range, but they do complement the wheel arches well, giving the GSE an appealing stance. The bumpers are only slightly more aggressive compared to those on the standard Mokka, and overall, despite the yellow brake calipers, it remains a less ostentatious EV than the Alfa Junior, suggesting that the ‘OMG’ branding might be somewhat exaggerated. However, we can anticipate the inclusion of GSE graphics and a sportier interior when Opel finally reveals the prototype's wrap in the coming month or so.
