The 2025 K5 features a turn signal operation logic tailored for the Korean market.

Kia is recalling more than 82,000 K5 sedans due to a software-related lighting problem.

The vehicles are equipped with a turn signal system designed for the Korean market.

When the turn signal is engaged, the parking light may fail to remain lit.

Kia is recalling thousands of K5 sedans because of a lighting issue that can impair visibility. This raises the risk of an accident and means the vehicle does not meet federal motor vehicle safety standards.

The recall affects 82,281 K5s from the 2025 model year, attributed to a software malfunction. Specifically, the issue lies with the Power-net Domain Controller (PDC) software, which may prevent the parking lights from remaining on.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “When the turn signal is activated while the headlamps are on in steady illumination or when parking lamps are active, the corresponding parking lamp does not stay lit continuously.” Although the vehicle will still have illumination, the lack of functioning parking lights is in violation of FMVSS No. 108.

Kia North America became aware of the issue on May 13, when their corporate headquarters informed them that the turn signal operation logic intended for the Korean market might have inadvertently been used in U.S. models. This prompted an investigation and review of a 2025 K5, ultimately resulting in a recall.

Notices to owners are expected to be sent out next month, and some customers may be able to resolve the issue through an over-the-air update. Alternatively, they can visit a dealership to have the updated software installed.
