Caution: This Altered RX-7 Could Spark Intense Reactions | Carscoops

A modified JDM Mazda ɛ̃fini RX-7 is currently being auctioned in the US, featuring an eye-catching body kit and a single-turbo conversion for its rotary engine.

Published on May 25, 2025, at 21:08 by Chris Chilton, this distinctive Mazda RX-7 with a unique tuned aesthetic is available for bidding on Cars & Bids.

The ɛ̃fini rotary coupe boasts a custom body kit, rear spoiler, and coilovers. Its Bride seats provide added support but are so bulky that they prevent the doors from closing completely.

Altering cars serves as a form of personal expression, similar to how people modify their bodies with piercings and tattoos. However, this self-expression can pose challenges when selling the vehicle, as some alterations may deter potential buyers.

An example of this is the third-generation 1993 Mazda RX-7 showcased here. Originally a JDM-spec model from Mazda's premium ɛ̃fini line, it has undergone extensive modifications over the past 25 years, yielding mixed reactions.

The auction listing on Cars & Bids highlights varying opinions. Many comments reveal a divide, with as many disliking the Fast & Furious-inspired transformation as appreciating it. One commenter quips, “This looks like my grandmother’s Dust Buster,” while another describes it as the “Jar Binks edition,” referencing the unpopular character from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Conversely, some enthusiasts embrace the Japanese tuning culture. One user states, “This is so cool, it just screams early 2000s JDM!” Another adds, “Love it! Fast & Furious dreams do come true!”

In addition to its controversial front, this RX-7 features flared fenders, a massive rear spoiler, coilover suspension, Zauber wheels, LED taillights, and Ganador mirrors. It has also received a single-turbo conversion for the rotary engine, which originally produced 255 hp (258 PS) in sequential turbo configuration, but now is estimated to generate around 400 hp (406 PS) according to the seller.

The interior's combination of flashy red plastics and numerous gauges creates a striking appearance reminiscent of a chaotic scene in a 1950s nuclear power station control room. While the Bride seats seem to provide ample support, they are quite wide, resulting in the doors not closing flush. However, with the prominent body kit, it’s likely that few will notice, right?

What do you think? Do you support this RX-7's bold aftermarket modifications, or do you prefer a more stock version? Visit the listing here and feel free to comment your opinions below.
