Introducing the Toyota Century, a rare luxury sedan that has previously been unavailable in the US until now.

Recently, a Toyota Century V12 was auctioned in the US at a surprisingly low price. Featuring air suspension and distinctive features, this sedan is indeed a rare find. A unique edition of this model served as the official state vehicle for Japan’s Emperor.

Typically, when thinking of used vehicles over 20 years old equipped with a V12 engine, you wouldn’t expect them to be affordable. They generally fall into the “niche” category, often presenting more eccentricities than practical benefits. This is precisely what makes the Toyota Century an intriguing option. It embodies that description but could very well be one of the best deals available. Someone just purchased this particular model for the price of a used Corolla.

Although Toyota didn’t strive to make the Century a common name, they certainly ensured it stood out. Unfortunately, it has never been officially sold in the United States.

The second-generation Toyota Century, known as the G50, was available with a V8 engine, but the true highlight is the V12 variant, which offers 276 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque on paper, though likely more in reality. This marked Toyota’s first-ever V12 implementation. The top version features a four-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, with this specific model having approximately 96,000 miles (154,500 km) on the odometer.

For fans of the Lexus LS400, this vehicle outperforms it virtually in every aspect. Remarkably, it was produced for 21 years before its replacement.

      An Overbuilt Luxury for Longevity

This vehicle is well-known for being over-engineered and still boasts features that feel luxurious today. For instance, the heated, power-adjustable rear seats are a rare combination even now. Additionally, these seats come with a built-in massage function—something Toyota hasn't offered in decades. Moreover, it includes an air-suspension system, flip-down cup holders for the second row along with an entertainment system, a remote, and even an integrated phone.

The front passenger seat features a function that allows the center of the backrest to fold forward. What’s the purpose? It allows rear seat occupants to extend their legs into the front row when the front seat is unoccupied. This offers a remarkable glimpse into classic luxury that remains impressive today.

It's important to emphasize that this vehicle is more than just nostalgic luxury, a distinctive V12 engine, and enduring aesthetics. It stands as a true JDM icon and is even more special due to its rarity in the USA.

Certainly, the new owner will attract considerable attention whether at a car show or a cars-and-coffee event, but they'll also turn heads on the road. Few people in the US are familiar with such a vehicle. No one can say the same about a Corolla or most other cars that could be acquired for a similar price.
