This is one of only 10 SA-40 Speedsters created to commemorate Saleen’s 40th anniversary.
Purchased for $156,472 in 2023, it was subsequently sold for $104,500 after only 75 miles.
Signed by Steve Saleen, it features a supercharged Coyote V8 engine.
It’s uncommon to witness a factory-fresh collectible lose value so rapidly, but the 2023 Saleen Mustang SA-40 Speedster has experienced a $52,000 reduction in price. As one of only 10 made to celebrate Saleen’s 40th anniversary, this yellow-and-black custom convertible was recently auctioned on Bring a Trailer for $104,500. This reflects a significant decline from the $156,472 purchase price less than two years ago, with just 75 miles added to its mileage.

Sporting a Speedlab Yellow exterior with black leather and signed by Steve Saleen, this SA-40 includes a carbon fiber tonneau cover, distinctive graphics, and a serialized plaque. It is equipped with a Saleen supercharger that enhances the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 to 800 horsepower. This power is transmitted through a 10-speed automatic gearbox and a 3.55:1 limited-slip differential to the rear wheels.
More Than Just a Supercharged Mustang
This specific Mustang sold on BaT is more than just another high-performance pony car. It features several sought-after modifications beyond the exterior upgrades and added power, including a suspension system with Saleen-tuned R-Code Racecraft struts, shocks, springs, and sway bars.
The fenders, side skirts, front splitter, and rear fascia all have functional aerodynamic elements for improved stability. Inside, the vehicle includes boost and air temperature gauges, as well as heated and ventilated seats for added comfort. A custom steering wheel provides a stylish accent to the interior.
Despite its impressive specifications and distinctive design, this Mustang has remained nearly untouched since it was new. Interestingly, the sole owner to this point is Steve Saleen himself, which adds a playful twist to the “Welcome!” card included in the sale, especially since it’s also signed by him.
Why Did It Sell for So Much Less?
The lower winning bid, especially in comparison to the MSRP, could be attributed to a few significant factors. First, Saleen, as a tuning brand, doesn’t carry the same prestige today as it did a couple of decades ago; it's not the same brand that once produced the S7 supercar. Additionally, the original Mustang that evolved into this SA-40 Speedster had an MSRP of $57,950.
Given that, perhaps $104,500 is a more noteworthy price. In any case, it appears the new owner has acquired a unique vehicle, and it's ready for delivery.
