A Kia EV6 GT was recently purchased at auction for under half of its original price.
The buyer paid just $31,000 for a car boasting 576 horsepower that can compete with supercars.
While it's an exceptional bargain, the EV6 GT has a limited range, which may complicate long road trips.
Used electric vehicle prices are plummeting, and the prominent Kia EV6 GT is no exception. In fact, someone just acquired one at auction for less than half its original MSRP of $64,360. So, would you spend $31,000 on a two-year-old EV with 21,000 miles? Let's look at the pros and cons to understand why this could be a fantastic deal for the buyer.
The Drawbacks of the Kia EV6 GT
Let’s start by discussing some of the downsides of owning a Kia EV6 GT AWD. The most significant drawback is undoubtedly its limited range. At most, it offers around 206 miles (331 km) on a full charge, according to EPA estimates.
In my experience, you might reach that range—but only if you're not constantly pushing its limits. My test drive yielded around 175 miles, so don’t expect much more if you’re really enjoying the acceleration. It's not ideal for long road trips, but it's sufficient for daily driving.
On another note, while the suspension can be a bit harsh in GT mode, switching to ‘normal’ mode seems to solve that issue. Additionally, the climate controls can be a bit tricky. Most people may grow accustomed to them over time, but I've found them less user-friendly across various Kia models.
The Enjoyable Aspects: Why the EV6 GT is a Bargain
Now that we've covered the less appealing aspects, let’s explore why this car is so enjoyable to drive. Yes, the impressive 576 horsepower (429 kW) is a major factor, but it’s not just about speed. The EV6 GT also handles exceptionally well. Although it can be slightly outperformed by its counterpart, the Ioniq 5 N (which we've also tested), that comparison speaks highly of both cars’ capabilities.
During our tests at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the EV6 GT excelled on both the drag strip and the road course. The only downside was the ABS engagement during trail braking, which may have been resolved with recent software updates. Ultimately, this is a four-door super hot hatch, and we haven't even touched on the key selling points yet.
While speed is thrilling, the significant discount from depreciation makes this car a true steal at $31,000. Most importantly, it offers comfort, space, and ample room to accommodate five passengers along with a day’s worth of gear. Furthermore, it can tow nearly 4,000 pounds! That is impressive for such a compact car that performs so sharply and swiftly.
Nevertheless, it’s worth mentioning that some uncertainties remain. How will electric vehicles like this hold up over time? Will replacing batteries and motors ever be cost-effective? These are critical questions that the new owner from Cars&Bids will need to ponder in the future. Until then, they can relish in one of the most well-rounded vehicles in its category for less than half of its original MSRP.
