Elon Musk is said to have ceased his regular operations from the White House.

Although he attended a cabinet meeting today, it felt more like a portion of a farewell tour. President Trump expressed gratitude for Musk’s contributions and remarked that he has been “treated very unfairly.”

Recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk pledged to step back from his position as the de facto head of the Department of Government Efficiency, and it seems he is already preparing to leave. Reports indicate that the outspoken executive is no longer working regularly from the White House.

While his period as a special government employee was always meant to be brief, it appears to be coming to an end quickly. However, Musk is still present, as White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles informed the New York Post that “Instead of meeting with him in person, I’m talking to him on the phone, but it’s the same net effect.”

This situation is ironic, given Musk’s aversion to remote work and the government's push to bring federal employees back to the office. Nevertheless, Musk has been a regular presence at the White House and even participated in cabinet meetings, including one that took place today.

CNBC reports that his visit felt somewhat like a farewell tour, as he told President Trump it had been “an honor to work with your incredible Cabinet.” He expressed his gratitude and claimed that DOGE has saved $160 billion (£120 / €141). However, previously claimed savings have sparked considerable debate.

Trump expressed appreciation to Musk, stating, “You really have sacrificed a lot. You’ve been treated very unfairly.” Musk then humorously responded, “Well, they like to burn my cars, which is not great.”

As Musk gears up to transition back to corporate life, administration officials have pointed out that DOGE's work is not complete. Musk is also anticipated to become an informal advisor, and it is evident he retains the President’s attention.
