Audi is finalizing the next-generation RS5 sedan and Avant.
These models will succeed the RS4 and will incorporate a new plug-in hybrid setup.
The high-performance version showcases a distinctive front design and unique exhausts.
Last summer, Audi revealed the revamped A5 and S5, and now they are preparing to launch the top-tier RS5 and RS5 Avant. Recently, prototypes have been spotted testing at the Nürburgring as part of the development process.
Clad in swirling camouflage, these high-performance models closely follow in the wake of their S5 counterparts. While the front end retains much from the previous designs, there are several noticeable modifications, including a subtly updated bumper with larger air intakes. The lower intake also shifts from a honeycomb mesh to a broader “X” pattern.

The most striking alteration can be seen at the rear, where a dual exhaust system with large tips has been integrated into a unique bumper that features a small diffuser along with vertical elements. New reflectors arranged horizontally are also visible.
The modifications don’t stop here; the RS5 includes front fender vents and sportier side skirts. More importantly, there’s a side-mounted charging port that indicates the model’s plug-in hybrid capability.
Audi has kept details under wraps, but speculation hints that the model may utilize a version of the RS4’s twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine. This engine generates 444 hp (331 kW / 450 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque, allowing the wagon to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.1 seconds and reach a governed top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
The plug-in hybrid system is expected to provide a significant performance increase, allowing the model to compete with the Mercedes C63 S E Performance. The latter features a plug-in hybrid setup that includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a rear-mounted electric motor, a 6.1 kWh battery pack, and a 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, delivering a total output of 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 752 lb-ft (1,018 Nm) of torque.
In addition to the advanced powertrain, we can anticipate a robust braking system and a sport-tuned suspension. A familiar interior is expected, featuring an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment display, and an optional 10.9-inch front passenger screen.
