The Renault 5 Turbo 3E features dual in-wheel electric motors that collectively produce 540 hp, but it comes with a hefty price tag.

To secure an allocation, customers are required to make a down payment of $51,000.

The 500 hp super hatch is built on a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis.

Its 800-volt architecture enables charging at rates of up to 350 kW.

For car enthusiasts wishing to acquire a piece of automotive history (and who have a significant budget), Renault is offering a chance to indulge. The all-electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E will start at €155,000 (around $177,000 at current rates) or £135,000, with deliveries expected to commence in 2027.

To put this into perspective, that amount is higher than a new Porsche 911 GTS ($169K) in the U.S. or two BMW M2s (£68K) in the UK. With the price of this limited-edition hot hatch, one could also purchase a BMW M2 ($65K), a Hyundai Ioniq 5N ($66K), and a VW Golf GTI ($32K), totaling $163K in the U.S. Moreover, since this is a limited-edition vehicle, only 1,980 units will be produced. Therefore, if you're interested in acquiring one, you should act quickly, or you may face a higher price later.

A Nostalgic Tribute to Turbo Legends

Renault unveiled the new R5 Turbo 3E late last year after initially presenting it as a concept in 2022. It is designed as a modern interpretation of the iconic Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2. The car is visually stunning and delivers impressive performance, but potential buyers should act swiftly to secure their allocation or risk paying even more.

According to Renault, the factory price of €155,000 (~$177,000) or £135,000 is limited to the first 500 units. This cost excludes any additional options, accessories, or personalization features. Additionally, those who wish to secure an allocation must provide a non-refundable down payment of €45,000 (~$51,000), so buyers should be certain of their intent to purchase.

Renault appears to require these funds to complete the vehicle. In a press release, the company stated that the funds from down payments by private customers and dealers securing allocations will help finance the development of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

      Customization and Delivery Schedule

Beginning in early 2026, buyers will be contacted by their selected dealers to customize their cars. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate with Renault designers to create a unique exterior and interior design, if desired.

The 5 Turbo 3E is built on a unique carbon fiber monocoque chassis with two in-wheel electric motors at the rear, producing 540 hp and capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds. It is powered by a 70 kWh battery pack. The electric hatch features an 800-volt architecture, enabling a charge from 15 to 80% in merely 15 minutes, with a certified range exceeding 250 miles (400 km).

A Few Competitors, In a Sense

While the R5 Turbo 3E doesn’t have any direct rivals, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N might be considered a close alternative. Although it is not a limited edition, lacks a carbon fiber chassis, and does not embody the R5 Turbo’s legacy, it does provide more power at about half the cost.

However, for those who value nostalgia (and you certainly do), the Ioniq 5 N lacks the historical significance and charm that the Renault 5 Turbo offers in abundance.
