It is still uncertain how far the B01 can travel on a single charge or the speed at which its battery can be recharged.
The Leapmotor B01 features a design that closely resembles that of the larger B10 SUV.
Both sedan variants will utilize lithium-iron phosphate battery packs.
Local pricing is anticipated to begin between 100,000 and 150,000 yuan.
In 2017, Leapmotor, a relatively unknown Chinese automotive manufacturer, launched the LP-S01, an unusual four-seat electric coupe that received little attention at the time. A few years later, the company has positioned itself as a serious competitor in China's growing electric vehicle market, thanks to models such as the T03 city car and the C11 electric crossover. Now, Stellantis' Chinese partner is preparing its inaugural electric sedan.
Debuted in photos released by both Leapmotor and China’s trademark office ahead of its public unveiling at the Shanghai Auto Show later this month, this sedan is called the B01. It should not be confused with the B10, Leapmotor’s electric SUV; the B01 shares a strong likeness to the former, with the main distinction being that it is a sedan. In a market increasingly filled with SUVs, it's refreshing to see a new electric sedan emerging.
However, if you were anticipating that Leapmotor would create a groundbreaking design, you might be disappointed. Like many recent sedans, the B01 is not particularly remarkable. In fact, its design appears quite ordinary. Nonetheless, if you are someone who prioritizes a vehicle mainly for transportation from one location to another, this could be acceptable for you.
Similar to the B10, the front of the B01 features narrow headlights, an LED light bar, and a blacked-out bumper. The sides have a simple design, with minimal creases and flush door handles. The rear of Leapmotor’s electric sedan is equipped with LED lights and, of course, a light bar.
There will be two powertrain options, both of which will utilize lithium-iron phosphate batteries from CALB. The base model will come with a 177 hp (132 kW) electric motor, while the higher-end model will feature a 214 hp (160 kW) motor. There is no information yet regarding the battery pack's size or the driving range of the vehicle on a single charge.
One aspect that stands out is the pricing. Like many electric vehicles from China, the B01 is expected to be priced competitively, with local reports indicating a range of 100,000 to 150,000 yuan (approximately $13,600 to $20,400). Additionally, as with many Chinese EVs, you can opt for a roof-mounted LiDAR system for those looking for added features.
