Hyundai Aims to 'Sell Aggressively' Despite Tariffs | Carscoops

Although the brand is feeling the impact of the tariffs, it is making significant investments in the US to mitigate the effects as much as possible.

Hyundai aims to "sell like crazy" in the US this year to maintain its success.

In 2024, the company recorded sales of 836,802 vehicles, marking a record for the fourth consecutive year.

The recently launched SUVs, including the Ioniq 9 and Palisade, are expected to help achieve that target.

Since the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing global semiconductor shortage, the world’s leading car manufacturers have had to urgently adjust their strategies, particularly after the implementation of President Trump’s tariffs. While many predict declining sales for 2025, one foreign brand is determined to maintain its streak of record-setting years in the US in spite of the tariffs.

Hyundai has established sales records in the US for the past four years and is optimistic about continuing this trend in 2025, aiming to increase its numbers once again. The goal may seem ambitious, but the company is confident in its plan to "sell like crazy" this year while remaining dedicated to supporting dealers and customers.

“This year will be no different,” said Hyundai Motor North America CEO Randy Parker in an interview with Auto News. “Tariffs or no tariffs, we’ll find a way to support our dealers and customers and aim for five consecutive years of growth.” In 2024, Hyundai’s sales reached 836,802 vehicles in the US, a 4.4% increase from the previous year.

Hyundai, which has invested $21 billion into its US operations, recently introduced the second-generation Palisade at the New York Auto Show. The release of this new model comes as three-row SUVs gain immense popularity, with sales increasing by 23% to 110,055 units last year.

The South Korean automaker has begun production of both the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 at its new factory in Savannah, Georgia. Additionally, it plans to expand hybrid powertrains throughout more of its lineup, with some models to be manufactured at this new facility. This decision comes despite the plant originally being designed for electric vehicles only, as the South Korean brand recognizes the rising demand for hybrid models in the US and aims to sidestep the burdensome import taxes by producing at least some of them locally.
