Customers have the option to select from 13 different leather hues and four types of wooden veneers.
Rolls-Royce has introduced a new chess set featuring concealed magnets, allowing for play while relaxing.
The luxurious board is designed to reflect the brand's vehicle aesthetics with a base inspired by the iconic waft lines.
High-quality materials are used, including ceramic-coated aluminum pieces and a milled aluminum board.
Although Rolls-Royce is renowned for crafting some of the world's most opulent vehicles, its offerings extend well beyond the handcrafted V12 engines and glamorous interiors. The brand also provides a selection of ultra-premium accessories, such as a leather-covered champagne chest, custom luggage sets, and a cigar humidor specifically designed for the Phantom. Now, the company has shifted focus to another sophisticated pastime: chess.
This new chess set, which can only be purchased through Rolls-Royce showrooms and its Private Office boutiques, features a leather-wrapped base that gently curves upward from the center. The design aims to capture the distinctive “waft lines” characteristic of its automobiles, subtly referencing its automotive heritage.
While chess is traditionally played on a stable surface, the Rolls-Royce chess set incorporates hidden magnets beneath the playing surface and within the pieces. This innovation allows for chess games while seated in the back of a Cullinan, aboard a yacht, or possibly even in a private jet, without the concern of pieces moving or sliding out of place.
As is typical with Rolls-Royce products, the materials used are of the highest quality. The board is crafted from milled aluminum, and each piece is made from the same wooden log, ensuring a seamless continuity in grain.
The chess pieces have a non-traditional design that embraces a modern look, which may require some players an adjustment period to grow accustomed to. All pieces are constructed from ceramic-coated aluminum with polished stainless steel heads, designed to mimic the feel of the solid-metal organ stops found in their cars. The black pieces sport a satin finish while the white pieces have an iridescent sheen.
Customization is an integral part of the Rolls-Royce experience, regardless of whether it involves cars or accessories. Buyers can choose from 13 different leather colors and four unique veneer options, personalizing each set to their preferences.
Whether anyone will actually engage in a complete game with one of these remains uncertain. However, like much of Rolls-Royce's offerings, ownership may well be more about the prestige than the game itself.
