Future Hyundais Will Feature a Tesla-Like Screen
Hyundai Motor Group has introduced its next-generation infotainment and operating system, featuring a large center display reminiscent of Tesla's. This upgraded software is set to launch in the second quarter of 2026.
In a clear nod to its Texas-based electric vehicle rival, Hyundai's forthcoming “Pleos” system will feature a similarly prominent tablet-style display. A key distinction, as indicated by the prototype, is that the Hyundai screen will include buttons and knobs, eliminating the need for aftermarket adjustments or dissatisfaction among traditionalists.
Tesla is recognized for having one of the top in-car infotainment systems currently available. It's expansive, swift, and relatively user-friendly, and if Hyundai can capture some of that appeal with this notably similar system, it could offer a compelling alternative for consumers seeking a Tesla-like experience but wishing to steer clear of that brand, which appears to be the trend among many buyers lately.
The name Pleos is derived from the Greek word "pleo," meaning more, combined with OS for operating system. Essentially, it translates to “more technology.”
Created in-house, Pleos functions as a Hyundai supercomputer, serving as a comprehensive platform that integrates high-performance chips, vehicle operations, infotainment, cloud infrastructure, fleet management, and logistics optimization. It aims to enhance response times, vehicle connectivity, and provide accurate real-time information along with autonomous driving capabilities.
While Hyundai has not detailed which specific brands, models, or powertrains will feature the system first in 2026, it does indicate that by 2030, 20 million vehicles across its lineup will be equipped with it.
Additionally, Hyundai plans to introduce Level 2-plus self-driving technology by the end of 2027, in which Pleos will play a significant role. This new autonomous system will employ a combination of cameras, radars, and artificial intelligence.
