Hyundai's New Pleos Infotainment System Resembles a Tesla Imitation | Carscoops
The new Pleos Connect infotainment system from Hyundai is set to launch next year and will soon be featured in millions of vehicles.
This system, based on Android Automotive OS, is expected to include an AI-powered digital assistant. Additionally, the company is preparing to introduce a Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving system by 2027.
Automakers often discuss software-defined vehicles, which can occasionally be met with skepticism. However, the Hyundai Motor Group’s announcement of their Pleos software brand and the next-generation infotainment system is noteworthy.
The Pleos Connect infotainment system will debut in the second quarter of 2026 and is anticipated to appear in over 20 million vehicles by 2030. Featuring a smartphone-like interface with "distinctive, customizable, and user-friendly features," it promises an enhanced user experience.
Although Hyundai has not shared many images, one can spot a large freestanding display reminiscent of those in Tesla vehicles. Similarities extend to a gear and battery display in the upper left corner, and the lower row of 'buttons' draws inspiration from Tesla's design, leading to a somewhat imitative appearance.
While originality may be in question, Hyundai claims the system will incorporate Gleo AI, which enables intelligent vehicle control through voice recognition, suggesting it will have an AI-integrated digital assistant.
Hyundai also introduced Pleos ID, a user profile linked to each driver. With cloud connectivity, users will be able to access their profiles—and likely their settings—in any vehicle equipped with Pleos Connect. This feature would facilitate the transfer of personalized settings when borrowing a partner's vehicle.
Beyond the infotainment system, Hyundai presents Pleos as a comprehensive software platform that unites high-performance chips, controllers, vehicle operating systems, infotainment systems, cloud services, fleet management, as well as mobility and logistics optimization. The company stated that this integration will support a variety of smart mobility functions, including autonomous driving, vehicle connectivity, real-time data analysis, and optimized route planning, ultimately enhancing user experience and urban mobility efficiency.
In related news, Hyundai has revealed that their Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving system will be available by the end of 2027. While specific details were not provided, the automaker mentioned that the system would "perceive vehicle surroundings through cameras and radars and make more complex decisions based on its artificial intelligence deep learning decision frameworks."
If it resembles Volkswagen’s upcoming Level 2+ system, we can anticipate features such as hands-free driving on certain roads, automatic lane changes, and traffic jam assistance.
