The Mexican-made Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra could see their average list prices rise by up to $16,000.
The budget-friendly Nissan Sentra might experience a price increase of $6,039, bringing its average cost to $30,194.
President Trump's implementation of a 25% tariff on imported vehicles and parts is set to impact the automotive sector, with consumers likely to feel the consequences. While the overall impact will become clearer over time, preliminary estimates indicate troubling prospects ahead.
iSeeCars reports that some of the American market's most favored vehicles might see price rises ranging from $6,000 to $16,000. This affects models from both domestic and international manufacturers.
In addition, Trump has enacted a significant 25% tariff on cars and parts manufactured outside the U.S.
Among the best-selling vehicles in the country are the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, with many units produced domestically. However, some models come from Silao, Mexico, making them subject to the 'Trump tax.'
With the average cost of a Silverado 1500 at $55,612, prices could rise to $69,515 once the new tariff is applied. The GMC Sierra 1500 might experience an increase of $15,599.
Tariff Effects on Popular Non-Domestic Vehicles in the US
Focusing on GM, the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox is exclusively manufactured in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, which could be disastrous since a 25% tariff would add $8,302 to its average list price.
Dodge’s challenges in selling the electric Charger Daytona may worsen with the tariffs. The Canadian-built EV starts at $59,595, potentially increasing to $74,494 due to tariffs, while the average list price could rise by $16,675 to $66,701.
In the case of Toyota, the Mexican-made Tacoma faces a price surge of $11,775 attributed to tariffs, and the Japanese-built 4Runner could see an increase of $13,532 in its average list price.
While more details could be discussed, the bottom line is that all imported vehicles could be subject to a 25% price increase starting April 2. Some manufacturers may absorb part of this cost to limit sales disruptions, especially initially, but the long-term outlook remains uncertain.
New vehicles won't be the only ones affected. As noted by iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer, the prices of used cars are expected to rise swiftly as buyers turn away from new vehicles. He suggested that this situation could mirror the pandemic era when limited new car production led to heightened demand for used cars.
