The iKamper Skycam Mini can be installed on the roof or over the bed of the R1T.

The Skycamp Mini tent is compatible with both the R1T and R1S, enabling both vehicles to transform into overland-ready machines.

Developed in collaboration with iKamper, the tent features a self-inflating mattress.

Additionally, Rivian provides a $2,800 tent for two people and a $1,400 Travel Kitchen for the adventurous owners.

Rivian has partnered with the camping gear company iKamper to introduce a new durable tent made specifically for the R1T truck and R1S SUV. Given that both models are crafted for thrill-seeking drivers, it’s logical for Rivian to sell such a product directly through their Gear Shop.

The tent, called the Skycamp Mini, weighs 137 lbs (61.8 kg) and is designed to be mounted on roof racks of either the R1T or R1S, or placed over the bed of the R1T. The tent is stored within a hardshell and can be set up in just one minute. iKamper asserts that the shell’s aerodynamic design does not negatively impact the driving range of the two Rivian models.

Other features include black hardware and Rivian branding. It's made from breathable PFAS-free fabric, accommodates one or two people, and is suitable for all seasons. Additionally, it includes a self-inflating mattress and locking crossbar brackets compatible with Rivian’s Adventure Key set.

      Price Considerations

This is where it gets complex. iKamper already sells a nearly identical version of the Skycamp Mini—minus the Rivian branding—for $3,895. However, the version branded with Rivian’s logo is priced at $4,595. While some may feel that the Rivian branding justifies the higher price, many might find it difficult to justify the cost.

Rivian offers more than one rooftop tent option. For the past couple of years, they have been selling a $2,800 two-person tent for the R1S, developed with Yakima. Unlike the iKamper tent, this option lacks a hardshell case and self-inflating mattress.

If you want to convert your R1 into a fully functional mobile base camp, you will also need to invest an additional $1,400 for the Travel Kitchen, which is also available from Rivian. This setup features two cooktops powered by a 1500W system that operates from a 120V outlet. It is designed to fold away for storage and is part of the expanding Adventure Gear collection.
