2026 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Receives a Digital Update, Yet Remains Unavailable for Purchase | Carscoops
The largest member of the Land Cruiser family has undergone slight enhancements in Japan.
The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 has received its first significant update since its launch in 2021.
Noteworthy features include a new 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and improved anti-theft measures.
Toyota has halted new orders for this SUV to focus on fulfilling the current backlog.
Toyota typically refines its iconic models rather than completely overhauls them, and the update for the Land Cruiser 300 Series is no different. The company has introduced a lightly updated version of the full-size SUV in Japan, which is still unavailable in North America, where only the smaller Land Cruiser 250 is offered.
In related news, the 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ small off-roader is expected to make its debut this fall.
The 2026MY Land Cruiser 300 does not feature any design changes compared to the original model launched in August 2021. Instead, Toyota has concentrated on technological enhancements. However, those considering placing an order will have to wait, as Toyota has temporarily stopped new orders to manage the significant existing backlog.
Interior Upgrades and Enhanced Theft Protection
The most apparent updates are found within the cabin. Mid-range and high-spec models now come equipped with a new 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster with customizable graphics, while entry-level versions are fitted with a smaller 7-inch display. Standard equipment includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, but buyers can choose a more substantial 12.3-inch version if desired.
In light of the Land Cruiser’s reputation as Japan's most frequently stolen vehicle, Toyota has implemented extra anti-theft features. The “My Car Start Lock” function allows owners to remotely lock the engine via their smartphones, deterring potential thieves from driving away.
All variants are now equipped with a fingerprint authentication start button, a system that verifies the proximity of the smart key, an alarm with a tilt sensor, and an immobilization system.
Compliance and Safety Upgrades
To meet the latest Japanese regulations, the Land Cruiser 300 has been updated with an advanced collision damage mitigation braking function that enhances pre-crash safety for cyclists. Additionally, it includes an event data recorder and improved cybersecurity features.
Mechanically, there are no alterations to the powertrain. The Land Cruiser 300 continues to offer the same non-electrified twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 gasoline and 3.3-liter V6 diesel engines, both paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system. However, Toyota indicates that the diesel engine now meets Japan’s latest emissions requirements.
Price Increases and Lengthy Wait Times
The starting price for the refreshed Land Cruiser 300 is ¥5,252,500 (approximately $35,100) for the entry-level gasoline GX variant, rising to ¥8,136,800 (around $54,400) for the diesel-powered GR Sport model. Prices have increased by ¥130,900 to ¥152,500 ($875 to $1,020) compared to the prior model, depending on the trim level.
However, the price may not concern new buyers for the time being. Demand for the Land Cruiser 300 in Japan consistently exceeds supply, leading to extensive waiting lists. To manage expectations, Toyota has paused new orders until they can deliver vehicles to customers who have already placed orders. The company provided an official apology on its website:
"Thank you for your interest in purchasing our vehicle. The Land Cruiser ‘300’ has received improvements to meet regulations. We have suspended orders to prioritize the production of vehicles for customers who are already waiting for delivery. We acknowledge that many customers in Japan are awaiting their vehicles and we are committed to maximizing production to expedite these deliveries. We apologize for the ongoing inconvenience and appreciate your understanding."
