7,000 Ineos Grenadiers Recalled Due to Doors That May Open While Driving | Carscoops
Sticky door buttons are preventing the door from fully closing, leading to another recall for Ineos.
Grenadier models produced between July 6, 2023, and April 19, 2024, are included in the recall.
The exterior door buttons may get stuck due to improper assembly.
Dealers have been instructed to replace all external door buttons on the off-road vehicles.
Ineos is recalling over 7,000 vehicles in the United States due to a door latch mechanism that could allow doors to swing open while the vehicle is in motion, posing risks to passengers and other road users, which necessitates returning affected models to the dealers.
The British manufacturer indicates that the door button mechanism on 2024 Grenadier models may not have enough grease applied during assembly. As a result, the exterior door buttons may stay depressed, preventing the door from latching completely. This could lead to the door unintentionally opening.
Impacted Grenadiers were built between July 6, 2023, and April 19, 2024. Owners encountering this issue might notice the door buttons sticking and hear a different sound when closing the door due to incomplete engagement with the striker. A dashboard warning will also indicate if a door is not securely closed.
Ineos first noticed multiple warranty claims regarding exterior door buttons sticking when doors were opened from the outside in October 2023. The company promptly began reworking vehicles at its facility and, in February 2024, issued a technical service bulletin to dealers instructing them to reapply grease to the mechanism. However, despite these actions, Ineos received two reports of doors opening while driving on US vehicles that same year and determined earlier this month that the issue constitutes a safety-related defect.
Owners will be informed of the recall starting March 31, 2025. Dealers have been directed to replace all door button assemblies at no cost. These new assemblies feature improved guidance and kinematic mechanisms and are assembled with a more effective grease application process.
