In Berlin, four Teslas were destroyed in what appear to be escalating arson incidents.

In addition to the burned electric vehicles, police discovered several other damaged cars.

At around 1:40 a.m. on Friday, German police responded to a report of a vehicle fire, initially believing it to be a routine case. However, the situation quickly escalated into a series of similar fires. By the time the fires were extinguished, four Teslas had been entirely consumed by flames, prompting a frantic search for those responsible.

The events occurred in Plänterwald and Steglitz, two suburbs of Berlin. After addressing the first incident, police received another call about 30 minutes later, reporting yet another fire approximately a half-hour away from the first site. Authorities confirmed that the affected Teslas were completely destroyed and rendered undriveable.

The investigation has now been taken over by the State Security Service, moving away from local authorities' hands. While no injuries have been reported, officials confirmed that at least five additional vehicles, apart from the Teslas, also suffered damage due to the fires.

This incident marks at least the third suspected arson targeting Teslas in Germany. Reports from Rbb24 indicate that there were similar attacks in early February when two cars and several charging stations were set ablaze. Subsequently, on March 5, a power pole supplying electricity to a Tesla factory was set on fire, leading to a shutdown of the plant for several days.

It’s worth noting that just over a month ago, one of the earliest protests against Elon Musk, sparked by his controversial gesture, took place in Berlin at Tesla’s Gigafactory. Two political groups claimed responsibility for that protest and called for boycotts of Tesla products.

Tesla’s Sales Experience Significant Decline in Germany

Although these arson acts do not seem to be directly connected to the earlier political protests in Berlin, they may reflect some of the same underlying sentiments. In late 2024, two political groups organized protests against Elon Musk, urging for boycotts of Tesla products. These protests may have contributed to a staggering 70.6% decline in Tesla sales in Germany, based on data from the nation’s transport authority, compared to January and February of the previous year.
