Toyota's Upcoming C-HR+ Electric Vehicle Could Debut In The US Next Year | Carscoops
Toyota has introduced its latest electric SUV, aimed specifically at singles and couples.
European versions of the C-HR+ will come equipped with either a 57.7 kWh or a 77 kWh battery pack.
The design of this new electric SUV closely resembles the current C-HR model.
A dual-motor variant of the Toyota C-HR+ produces a remarkable 338 hp.
Toyota has unveiled a new electric vehicle that took many by surprise. Named the C-HR+, it shares a similar name to the existing C-HR found in international markets, but it's larger and is anticipated to be available in the United States next year. Thus far, it has only been announced in its European specification and is positioned below the larger bZ4X in Toyota's lineup.
Contrary to what the name C-HR+ might suggest, it is not derived from the gasoline-powered C-HR but instead utilizes the same e-TNGA 2.0 platform as the bZ4X. Unlike that model, which often receives criticism for its unconventional design, the C-HR+ presents a sleeker and more polished appearance. Whether this will lead to better sales than the bZ4X remains to be determined, but it is a promising start.
The new Toyota C-HR+ boasts a wheelbase of 108.2 inches (2,750 mm), which is exactly four inches shorter than that of the bZ4X. The company indicates that the C-HR+ is specifically designed for singles and couples, while the bZ4X caters to families. Given the high costs associated with developing new electric vehicles from scratch, Toyota is leveraging similar powertrain options from the bZ4X.
In Europe, the base models will feature a 57.7 kWh battery with a single electric motor powering the front wheels, delivering 165 hp (123 kW). According to Toyota, this variant will provide a range of 283 miles (455 km) on the WLTP cycle and can accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in a notable 8.6 seconds. A more powerful front-wheel drive option with a 77 kWh battery will also be available, producing 221 hp (165 kW) and offering 373 miles (600 km) of range, while reducing the 0-62 mph time to 7.4 seconds.
At the top end of the C-HR+ lineup will be a dual-motor all-wheel drive model, featuring 338 hp (252 kW), a 77 kWh battery, and a 0-62 mph time of 5.2 seconds. This variant is expected to achieve a range of 326 miles (525 km).
Has the Electric Toyota America has been waiting for arrived?
Toyota has not yet confirmed whether the C-HR+ will be available in the U.S. In a statement to Carscoops, they simply mentioned, “We have no U.S. product announcements at this time.” However, introducing the C-HR+ domestically could assist the brand in complying with the Advanced Clean Car II sales regulations in six states, effective for the 2026 model year.
