Volkswagen has introduced the Teramont Pro in China, which serves as a preview for the revamped Atlas.
This crossover showcases a streamlined appearance and a high-tech cabin equipped with up to six displays.
It is powered by a fifth-generation EA888 engine generating 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.
SAIC Volkswagen has launched the updated Teramont Pro in China, and it’s likely a glimpse at the redesigned Atlas. If this is accurate, we can anticipate a larger and more sophisticated seven-seat crossover.
On the exterior, the Teramont Pro features a streamlined design with a fully enclosed grille bordered by large headlights. It also showcases a sporty front end with various intakes.
As we move toward the rear, the vehicle exhibits smooth body lines and flush door handles. Designers incorporated a unique character line along with an updated greenhouse. Other striking features include a rear spoiler and a light bar with pixel-style taillights.
The crossover's dimensions have expanded, now measuring 203.1 inches (5,158 mm) in length, 78.4 inches (1,991 mm) in width, and 70.4 inches (1,788 mm) in height. This means the Teramont Pro is 2.4 inches (61 mm) longer than the Atlas, with slight increases in width and height.
Volkswagen has not provided extensive details about the interior, but noticeable features include a digital instrument cluster, a floating infotainment system, and a display for the front passenger. The vehicle can also come with three additional screens, indicating the availability of a rear-seat entertainment system.
In terms of features, buyers can expect a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a 30-color ambient lighting setup. Additional amenities include a fragrance diffuser and a luxurious front passenger seat that includes an electric footrest along with massage and ventilation options.
Noteworthy features also comprise rear climate controls and sunshades for the back windows. Other elements include a floating center console and a potential wireless smartphone charger.
Power is delivered by the fifth-generation EA888 engine, which claims enhanced responsiveness along with reduced fuel consumption and emissions. This familiar powertrain has undergone significant updates for optimal performance.
The new engine utilizes the Miller cycle and operates with an ultra-high pressure fuel system that atomizes the fuel more effectively. This results in improved combustion efficiency and decreased emissions and engine noise. Additionally, the engine is equipped with a variable-geometry turbocharger and an exhaust purification system that employs high-temperature exhaust gases for efficient purification of harmful substances.
Furthermore, enhancements have been made to the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and other moving components to strengthen durability. The lubrication system has also been enhanced, coupled with upgrades to the intake and intercooler.
While this summarizes the updates briefly, the engine now produces 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, which is an increase of 51 hp (38 kW / 52 PS) and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm). For comparison, the U.S. version of the Atlas has a fourth-generation EA888 engine generating 269 hp (201 kW / 273 PS) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque.
The engine pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system, allowing the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 7.6 seconds.
Volkswagen has been somewhat reserved with further details, but the Teramont Pro is equipped with DCC adaptive chassis control and an IQ. Pilot assisted driving system. The latter is classified as a L2+ semi-autonomous driving technology, and Volkswagen has also mentioned a “parking butler system,” providing remote parking assistance.
