At this point, it appears that the Ford Mustang will continue without any direct competitors.

A viable business case for a potential seventh-generation Camaro hasn’t been established.

Although a new Camaro hasn’t been completely ruled out, its realization seems increasingly unlikely.

Chevrolet was keen to keep the next Camaro affordable.

Whether your preference lies with the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, or Dodge Challenger, Ford deserves credit for maintaining its pony car while its competitors have discontinued theirs. Chevrolet had been contemplating the development of a new-generation Camaro to compete with the seventh-generation Mustang; however, a recent report indicates that the project has encountered significant setbacks.

Sources suggest that a team within General Motors recently drafted a proposal for a future Camaro, receiving support from various GM executives. As is typical for potential new car initiatives, they were tasked with presenting a strong business case for this model.

After presenting their proposal to GM’s decision-makers, GM Authority reports that the project was effectively “smashed,” as the business case did not hold enough weight.

While this development doesn’t spell complete doom for a new Camaro, a source pointed out that while the project is “still in play…the light at the end of the tunnel has grown dimmer.”

Prior to this news, GM was reportedly striving to make any forthcoming Camaro more budget-friendly and accessible than its predecessor. By lowering the price, Chevy aimed to enhance its attractiveness and appeal to younger consumers, mirroring its strategy with the C8 Corvette, which priced itself below its mid-engine competitors to reach a wider audience.

It’s clear that gaining approval from senior GM executives for a new Camaro will be far more challenging now than it would have been a few years ago. GM is directing billions towards electric vehicle development and launching several factories to produce battery packs in the U.S. If the Camaro were to make a comeback, it would likely need to be based on a platform that allows for flexible powertrains, encompassing ICE, hybrid, and EV variants of the iconic muscle car.
