Ford App Introduces Remote Killswitch to Prevent F-150 Theft

Cars are frequently stolen in America—approximately once every 31 seconds. As the Ford F-150 is the top-selling vehicle in the United States, it's likely that many of these thefts involve F-150s. To combat this, Ford is offering a mobile app engine immobilizer in its new Ford Security Package for all new F-Series trucks, allowing customers to remotely disable their truck from starting, regardless of its location in the world. Additionally, if your truck is stolen, Ford will assist by covering your insurance deductible.

The new Ford Security Package was introduced with the 2024 F-150 and will eventually extend to 2025 Super Duty trucks and other upcoming Ford models. This package is more than just a basic remote engine immobilizer; it is a comprehensive theft prevention solution. Through the FordPass mobile app, owners of appropriately equipped F-150s can access the “Start Inhibit” feature, which was previously exclusive to fleet vehicles but is now available to retail customers. This feature prevents the truck from being started, even with an authorized key. No matter your location or who attempts to access the vehicle, it remains secured. You can leave your F-150 parked at the airport for extended periods without concern, or stop people in your own home from taking your keys for a joyride. Until you give the digital command to start the truck, it will not start.

If someone attempts to steal your truck, you'll receive alerts through the app. Ford provides a dedicated 800 number for assistance, which is said to be operated by real representatives who will reach out to local authorities if you're away from your vehicle. Furthermore, Ford recognizes that thieves can be resourceful. If someone manages to bypass the digital locks and successfully steals the truck, Ford will reimburse customers up to $2,500 for their insurance deductible.

All of these security services are complimentary for the first year. After that, there is a monthly fee of $7.99. The only requirement is that you must own a 2024-2025 F-150 or a 2025 Super Duty with Sync 4 version 2.1.6.4. Eventually, these services may be available for other models, but Ford has naturally begun with its most popular vehicle.
