Report: Porsche 911 Dakar Set for a 2026 Relaunch with GTS T-Hybrid Power | Carscoops
The high-riding, limited-edition 992.2 is expected to adopt a 534 hp, electrically-assisted engine to enhance both power and fuel efficiency, as per recent information.
Porsche is rumored to introduce a new hybrid version of the 911 Dakar coupe this year.
The elevated 992.2 is said to contain a 543 hp, 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine combined with a small 1.9 kWh battery.
According to Porsche insiders, the Dakar is anticipated to make its debut at the end of 2025, marking it as a 26MY model.
Porsche ventured into new territory with the 992 Dakar—taking it upwards—and is reportedly set to bring back this rally-inspired sports car in 2026, now featuring hybrid technology.
While Porsche has yet to confirm the rumors about its return, sources within the company informed a British magazine that a Dakar variant of the refreshed 992.2-generation 911 is likely to be revealed at the year's end in 2025.
However, unlike the original’s 3.0-liter flat-six engine, the updated Dakar will utilize the electrically-assisted 3.6-liter engine that Porsche developed for the new 992.2 GTS, marking the first hybrid 911, according to Autocar.
The previous Dakar utilized an engine that was also sourced from the GTS of its era, but the integration of hybrid technology along with an additional 600 cc significantly increases the output. The former 3.6 engine produced 473 hp (480 PS) and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) of torque, while the new internal combustion unit offers 478 hp (485 PS) with the same torque, in addition to accessing 53 hp (54 PS) and 110 lb-ft (149 Nm) from electric power.
The previous Dakar could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.4 seconds; however, the new model is expected to approach the hybrid GTS's time of 2.9 seconds. The Dakar T-Hybrid will again feature all-wheel drive and a PDK paddle-shift transmission, although its compact 1.9 kWh battery does not allow for electric-only operation.
Porsche limited the production of the last Dakar to just 2,500 units, and it is likely that availability for the new model will also be restricted. Anticipate a price increase from the $220,020 charged in 2022 to around $250,000, not including any special paint options. The Rothmans-style “Rally Design Package” livery on the last Dakar was an additional $26,000 upgrade.
The production of the previous Dakar concluded in November 2024, with the final car showcasing the striking yellow and blue colors reminiscent of the 1984 Paris-Dakar rally-winning 911 driven by René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne. This unique model was crafted by Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (special wish) division and was entirely painted by hand.
