VW Eliminates 2025 ID.4 Base Model, Increasing Starting Price by $5,000 | Carscoops
However, the entry-level 62 kWh variants of the 2025 VW ID.4 will be launched later this year.
VW has debuted the 2025 ID.4 solely with the top-tier 82 kWh battery option. Previously, the lineup featured a 62 kWh entry model that started at $39,735. Now, for the 2025 model year, the pricing commences at $45,095 for the Pro RWD version.
The ID.4 has not performed as well in the US market as VW anticipated. Sales dropped significantly from nearly 38,000 in 2023 to just over 17,000, mainly due to a production and sales halt for several months caused by issues with leaking door handles. Sales resumed last month, and VW has now revealed the pricing for the revamped 2025 ID.4, with shoppers facing more disappointing news.
This year, VW has made updates to the ID.4 lineup. The entry-level ID.4 Standard, which started at $39,735 in 2024, is no longer available (at least for now). Consequently, the 2025 ID.4 lineup now begins with the ID.4 Pro, which starts at $45,095 for the rear-wheel drive version and $48,995 for the all-wheel drive. This change results in a $5,360 higher starting price compared to last year.
However, this more budget-friendly version of the ID.4 will not be permanently discontinued. VW has indicated that models featuring the 62 kWh entry-level battery will be announced at a later time, but did not specify any potential pricing.
The ID.4 Pro is indeed a more appealing option compared to the previous ID.4 Standard. While that sub-$40,000 model had a range of merely 206 miles (331 km), the ID.4 Pro boosts that range to 291 miles (468 km) with rear-wheel drive, or 263 miles (423 km) with all-wheel drive, due to its larger 82 kWh battery. Compared to the 2024 version, this year's ID.4 Pro RWD sees an increase of $220, while the AWD model's price has risen by $240.
Above the Pro models are the rear-wheel drive Pro S and all-wheel drive Pro S. Prices for the RWD model start at $50,195, which is $200 more than last year. The AWD Pro S has seen an increase of $220, bringing its price to $54,095.
A new addition to the lineup is the flagship VW ID.4 Pro S Plus, starting at $57,295. This model enhances the standard Pro S features with 21-inch wheels, a black roof, silver trim on the front and rear bumpers, and power-folding mirrors with unique lighting. Inside, it offers heated rear seats, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, three-zone climate control, and an overhead camera view.
