Legacy Overland has meticulously restored this 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 using modern components.
The original engine was replaced with a 4.5-liter six-cylinder from an FJ80, paired with a manual transmission.
Additional enhancements include a lifted suspension, along with new brakes, a cooling system, and shocks.
While it's possible to enhance an older vehicle with a new paint job, updated wheels, and a thorough interior cleanup, the team at Legacy Overland demands more. When given the task of restoring and modifying this 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser, the Connecticut-based company completely dismantled the Aussie-spec model and rebuilt it from the chassis up.
After stripping away nearly every original component, Legacy was left with just the frame. They repaired it, sandblasted it, applied an epoxy coating, and painted it before embarking on the extensive process of installing a Toyota 4.5-liter six-cylinder engine from an FJ80 Land Cruiser, along with a five-speed manual transmission and transfer case.
The mechanical enhancements don’t end there. New drive shafts, an upgraded radiator and cooling system, and contemporary brake rotors have been installed at all four corners. The ride height has also been raised by 2.5 inches, thanks to Old Man Emu/ARB leaf springs and shocks, enhancing the FJ45's capabilities on challenging and rugged terrains.
From a visual perspective, the classic Toyota is dressed in Dune Beige, a color that perfectly complements its off-road nature. It also features steel 16-inch wheels with chrome hubcaps and a coordinating Dune Beige soft top.
Inside, the original steering wheel has been restored, and new gauges from Dakota Digital have been added, along with a custom sound system, air conditioning, and freshly upholstered leather seats. Although this Land Cruiser is nearly 50 years old, it has never looked better and is sure to delight its owner.
Legacy Overland has not disclosed the cost of the transformation, but it was undoubtedly significant. Nevertheless, for those who can afford a stunning FJ45, paying a premium for a complete overhaul seems justifiable.
