This is the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar that will compete at Le Mans, and it appears absolutely stunning.

Aston Martin's factory THOR team—The Heart of Racing, not the Norse god—will aim for an overall victory with the Valkyrie, marking the first time since 1959 that the brand has pursued this at Circuit de la Sarthe. Notably, the Valkyrie will be the only entry in the hypercar category within both WEC and IMSA in 2025 that is derived from a road car.

Interestingly, the Valkyrie was initially envisioned by Adrian Newey as part of a Red Bull Racing initiative in the late 2010s, during which Aston served as the team's title sponsor. Since then, Aston Martin has re-entered Formula 1 as a rebranded Racing Point and reportedly acquired Newey with a $200 million contract last year. This reflects the interconnected nature of F1.

The Valkyrie is equipped with a 6.5-liter V12 engine designed by Cosworth that can reach 11,000 rpm and generates over 1,000 horsepower, although in its racing configuration, it will be restricted to 680 hp to comply with class regulations. It features a carbon fiber chassis, double wishbone suspension on all sides with pushrod-actuated torsion bar springs, and adjustable dampers.

From a styling standpoint, the primary differences between the road version and the racing version are some mirrors and fixed aerodynamic components.

Three British drivers—Harry Tincknell, Tom Gamble, and Ross Gunn—will pilot the green No. 007 Valkyrie, possibly making it the most British car on the starting grid. Marco Sørenson and Alex Riberas from Denmark and Spain, respectively, will take the wheel of the No. 009.

With over 9,000 test miles completed, Aston seems to be taking its Le Mans aspirations for this year quite seriously, but we’ll find out how things unfold when the green flag is waved in June. If it were a beauty contest, however, the Valkyrie might already claim victory.
