Dodge Ram SRT-10 Loses a Wheel in Cars and Coffee Accident

How are people still having accidents while departing from Cars and Coffee? Have we really not witnessed this enough times for everyone to recognize it's a bad choice? Apparently not, but wow. This individual in a Viper-powered Ram SRT-10 is the latest to learn the hard way, and perhaps this will discourage others with too much horsepower from attempting to show off in front of high schoolers with their smartphones.

      Probably not, though.

The incident occurred on Saturday in Oklahoma City on North Martin Luther King Avenue. I came across the video shared in the OKC Car Spotters group and reached out to Gregory Macias (@mackcias) shortly after noticing he had taken some high-resolution photos of the crash. You can view the series of missteps from various angles here:

And then, take a look at Macias’ photos in this detailed gallery:

“To the best of my knowledge, this was his first time leaving the coffee and cars parking lot,” Macias informed me. “Most people give it a bit of gas while exiting, so I try to capture panning shots as they take off. He took the corner too sharply and hit the gas, losing control and crashing into the curb. The police were right there, so they responded quickly.”

There aren't many of these Ram SRT-10s around these days. They were well-known for featuring Dodge’s 8.3-liter V10 engine, producing an impressive 500 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque. That was a substantial amount of power, and it was quite unusual for a pickup during the mid-’00s. While the single-cab versions were equipped with a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission, the crew cabs, like the one involved in the crash, had 48RE four-speed automatic transmissions. No clutch kick was at play here—just too much acceleration, plain and simple.

The truck was taken away on a rollback but soon reappeared online when the owner created a new Instagram account, @carsandcoffee_srt10. It seems they are trying to leverage the attention by documenting the restoration process, and although it was removed, there was a GoFundMe link in the bio as recently as Monday. A brief search indicates the campaign is still ongoing at the time of this publication, with only $25 raised towards its $5,000 target. Yeah… I’m not convinced that will succeed.

Nonetheless, it appears the truck will have another chance, which is a positive outcome. I’m not pleased that this person damaged their vehicle, but I hope they recognize the importance of taking it easy when leaving a car meet next time. At best, you make it out without incident and still draw unwanted attention to the meeting spot, and at worst, you end up like this.
