A Canadian driver of a Porsche Cayman GT4 was caught exceeding the speed limit by 88 km/h.

Authorities issued her a fine of CA$483 and impounded the vehicle for a week.

The Sea to Sky Highway in British Columbia has become a hotspot for speeding violations.

While many enjoy a birthday celebration, not everyone chooses to commemorate the day with a high-speed drive in a striking yellow Porsche. However, one Canadian driver opted for this approach and ended up having her car impounded after being caught driving at more than double the speed limit.

This incident took place on December 30, 2025, on British Columbia’s breathtaking Sea to Sky Highway, which stretches from Vancouver into the mountains. An officer from the British Columbia Royal Canadian Mounted Police used a radar gun to clock the Porsche Cayman GT4 at 168 km/h (104 mph) in an 80 km/h (50 mph) zone.

Police reported that the driver asked the officer to be "considerate" due to it being her birthday. Unfortunately for her, that request did not yield any leniency. Instead, she received a CA$483 ($350) fine for speeding and had her Porsche towed for a mandatory seven-day impound.

The long-term financial implications may be even more significant. She will now have to pay high-risk insurance premiums for a minimum of three years, totaling around CA$2,500 ($1,800).

“We are responsible for maintaining road safety,” stated Corporal McLaughlin. “If you drive recklessly, you will face the repercussions regardless of the occasion.”

The Porsche wasn’t the only vehicle stopped on that particular section of road that day. Earlier in the morning, a rented Volkswagen and a Subaru were also pulled over for excessive speeding. The officers clocked them going 154 km/h (96 mph) and 149 km/h (93 mph), respectively.

The Subaru driver mentioned that the VW had been tailgating him, while the VW driver claimed he "wanted to get ahead" before merging lanes ended.

“Merge lanes are not the time for competition,” McLaughlin added. “At best, your aggressive driving will save you a few seconds. At worst, you’ll either crash or end up wasting hours as your vehicle is impounded by police. If you're looking to save time, start your journey earlier and adhere to the speed limit.”

According to CTV News, the Sea to Sky Highway has recently become notorious for speeding. On Christmas Day, 14 vehicles were impounded, each recorded exceeding the speed limit by at least 40 km/h (25 mph).
