Buick's Latest Electra E7 Appears More Like a Toyota Than a Buick | Carscoops

GM's latest plug-in hybrid features understated styling, advanced driver technology, and a market position that excludes US consumers.

Earlier today, details about the Buick Electra E7 were disclosed by Chinese regulatory bodies.

This plug-in hybrid crossover is larger than the Buick Envision and is anticipated to make its debut later this year, complete with self-driving capabilities.

The Electra sub-brand from Buick continues to expand, as the new E7 has been unveiled by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This model follows last year’s preview concept and will join the Electra L7 and Electra Encasa.

Seemingly crafted for anonymity, the Electra E7 showcases a nondescript design that doesn’t particularly evoke a Buick. The crossover features a shark-nosed front with C-shaped lighting similar to that of recent Toyota models, along with mid-mounted headlights and what appears to be an active shutter lower intake.

Examining the sides reveals sleek body lines and plastic cladding. Further scrutiny uncovers a roof-mounted Lidar sensor, likely part of the Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system, which functions similarly to Super Duper Cruise for highways and urban areas.

Additionally, the vehicle is outfitted with aerodynamically efficient wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches, complemented by chrome or dark trim accents, as well as an optional sunroof.

The back end is rather simple, featuring a full-width light bar with distinctive graphics and integrated "Buick" branding. Designers have also added a spoiler mounted on the liftgate and a sculpted bumper.

      What Are Its Dimensions?

Size-wise, the crossover measures 190.9 inches (4850 mm) in length, 75.2 inches (1910 mm) in width, and 65.8 inches (1671 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 112.2 inches (2850 mm).

To give a clearer picture, the Electra E7 fits between the Envision and Enclave, being 8.2 inches (208 mm) longer than the compact crossover while being 16.7 inches (424 mm) shorter than the three-row Enclave.

Details on the powertrain are sparse, but the plug-in hybrid crossover is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine producing 97 hp (72 kW / 98 PS). This is paired with an LFP battery and an electric motor that generates 221 hp (165 kW / 224 PS). A top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h) is also anticipated.
