Ram Finally Provides The Power Wagon With The Essential Feature It Lacked | Carscoops
The 2027 Power Wagon from Ram will see its towing capacity doubled, with the addition of Cummins torque and much-anticipated enhancements when it is released in the latter half of 2026.
Ram introduces a new turbodiesel to the 2027 Power Wagon range, featuring a 6.7-liter Cummins engine that produces 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. The truck will hit the market in late 2026, with a starting price of $88,470, including fees.
Ram is clearly listening to its enthusiasts, leading to exciting developments. Following the revival of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the company is now incorporating a diesel engine into the 2027 Power Wagon.
This addition is long anticipated, as diesel engines are a natural fit for heavy-duty trucks. Previously, customers had to make do with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 that generated 405 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.
While the Hemi engine performs adequately, it has a maximum towing capacity of 10,590 lbs. In contrast, the new diesel variant can tow nearly 20,000 lbs.
Regarding the engine, it’s a well-known 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six that delivers 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. It works in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive.
The primary rival to the Power Wagon is the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 ZR2, with both trucks fairly comparable in power. The diesel variant of the Chevy surpasses the Power Wagon with 470 hp, though it has a lower torque rating at 975 lb-ft.
Aside from the diesel engine, the rest of the Power Wagon maintains its familiar design. It features a crew cab configuration with a 6’4” bed, black powder-coated bumpers, extended fender flares, and Satin Black 20-inch wheels fitted with 34-inch all-terrain tires. Additional details include a sport performance hood, side graphics, and Cummins badging on the fenders.
Key features of the truck include rock rails, skid plates, solid axles, and electronic-locking front and rear differentials, along with an off-road-focused suspension that includes Bilstein shocks and a unique electronic disconnecting sway bar. It boasts 12.6 inches of ground clearance and approach, departure, and breakover angles of 26.1, 26.0, and 20.6 degrees.
Inside, the truck is equipped with a heated cloth bench seat and a six-speaker audio system, along with an integrated trailer brake controller and a 12-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system.
Available upscale options include leather bucket seats with heating and ventilation, a sunroof, and a larger 14.5-inch infotainment display. Additional amenities cover a dual wireless smartphone charger and premium audio systems with either nine or 17 speakers.
The diesel Ram 2500 Power Wagon is set to arrive in the latter part of 2026, starting at a price of $88,470, including destination charges.
