$40 Million Worth of Rare Superbikes Confiscated from Canadian Olympian Turned Kingpin | Carscoops
Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder, is currently involved in an international drug investigation connected to tens of millions in luxury automobiles and motorcycles.
Mexican authorities have confiscated $40 million worth of motorcycles linked to Wedding.
The operation was a collaboration between the FBI, LAPD, RCMP, and Mexican law enforcement.
Wedding remains on the FBI’s Most Wanted list with a reward of $15 million.
While many professional athletes find new opportunities after their careers, transitioning into media or building personal brands, some take very different paths. Ryan Wedding is alleged to be one of those individuals.
Recently, authorities seized a $13 million Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR connected to his case, and now they've recovered another substantial cache: $40 million in rare motorcycles, reportedly associated with Wedding's operation.
A Cross-Border Network
The joint effort included Mexican police working alongside the FBI, RCMP, and LAPD, indicating the seriousness of the case. While officials have yet to provide a complete inventory, glimpses from the photos offer significant insights.
According to Motorsport, some of the Ducati bikes featured in the images include those ridden by Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Dovisioso, Loris Capirossi, Andrea Iannone, along with Marc Marquez’s 2012 Moto2 championship bike and Rossi’s victorious 125cc Aprilia. This showcases Wedding’s apparent fondness for high-speed vehicles.
The seizure of the Mercedes-AMG CLK-GTR last month positioned Wedding within an elite automotive category, as it is one of only six roadster models ever produced. This recent bust indicates that his interests extend across various motorsport forms. Unfortunately, it appears his ties to violent crime and drug trafficking are equally extensive, if not more so.
From Olympic Athlete to Fugitive
Born in 1981, Wedding represented Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Now, he finds himself on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, facing a significant array of charges.
Authorities claim he led a transnational drug trafficking operation that smuggled hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and Southern California, ultimately reaching Canada and parts of the U.S.
Prosecutors have accused Wedding of orchestrating multiple murders to safeguard the operation, conspiring to retaliate against witnesses, and laundering large sums of money through various assets, including real estate and expensive vehicles. The U.S. State Department has increased the reward for information leading to his capture to $15 million, one of the highest currently offered.
Authorities believe Wedding may still be hiding in Mexico and warn that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
