Dodge's Craziest Hemi V8 Is Returning, But The Price Might Not Please You | Carscoops
Mopar's 1,000 hp Hellephant crate engine is now available again, suggesting that Stellantis may have more exciting V8 engines on the way.
The supercharged 426 HEMI combines durability with extensive power output. Its return hints that Stellantis is not finished exploring bold factory V8 options.
If you've been anticipating the opportunity to install a new Hemi V8 in the latest Charger, that chance is finally here. One of the most extreme crate engines offered by an OEM is back and remains unapologetically powerful. Stellantis is reselling its impressive 1,000-horsepower Hellephant A30 through Direct Connection.
The Hellephant A30, a supercharged Hemi, is available once again, boasting 1,000 horsepower (745 kW) and 950 lb-ft (1287 Nm) of torque. Prospective buyers will need to set aside $35,000 to acquire one.
This engine, sold via Stellantis' Mopar Direct Connection site, features a newly designed Gen III aluminum Hemi block with reinforced six-bolt mains, forged internals, and a robust IHI twin-screw supercharger. Notably, Direct Connection requires buyers to provide a VIN before ordering.
This stipulation seems minimal, especially for those experienced with restomods and engine swaps.
Historically, Mopar has engaged with high-horsepower crate engines before. As noted by Mopar Insiders, when the original Hellephant was launched in 2018, it came with a price tag of $29,995. Despite appearing steep, it sold out within about two days due to demand from builders and collectors.
Production at that time was limited to roughly 100 units, and enthusiasts who missed out had to look at auctions and private sales, where prices often exceeded the original costs. There's also a crucial aspect to consider with this new Hellephant release.
It may indicate that Stellantis has authorized further development of exciting Hemi engines. While the Hemi is on the upswing, the Hellephant represents the most extreme variant ever produced by Mopar.
This development strongly suggests that we may soon witness another Hellcat V8 appearing in a different Stellantis-labeled vehicle, potentially as early as January 1.
