Nissan has updated the Serena with new grille designs, advanced technology, and various trims, but only buyers of high-end models will experience the complete redesign and features.

The refreshed Nissan Serena features grille designs specific to different trims. The interior now includes Google infotainment and a rear roof monitor, while the gas and hybrid powertrains remain unchanged.

Although Nissan exited the U.S. minivan market in 2017 by discontinuing the Quest to focus on SUVs, its minivans are still popular in other regions, particularly in Japan. The Serena has just undergone a mid-cycle update.

This facelift comes three years after the launch of the sixth-generation model and includes design adjustments, an updated infotainment system with integrated Google services, and a wider variety of trims. The Serena continues to utilize its existing platform and engine options.

The most noticeable change is the enlarged grille, which extends lower into the redesigned bumper and bears a resemblance to Lexus designs. Its asymmetrical pattern mimics the weave of tailored fabric, flanked by sharp triangular intakes and new vertical LED lights.

However, this new front-end design is not featured across the entire lineup; it is exclusive to the higher trims: Highway Star V, Autech Line, and e-Power Luxion. The lower and mid-range models maintain the previous, simpler design, which includes a smaller grille.

The Autech variant also showcases the larger grille but features a different chrome design, along with unique LED lighting and sporty exterior accents that enhance its visual appeal.

Inside, while the three-row cabin (with options for seven or eight seats) remains largely the same, a new Tailor Fit upholstery option offers more personalization. The 12.3-inch central display now operates on updated NissanConnect software, including built-in Google services.

This updated system allows for easier access to Google features but has removed support for ProPilot NaviLink from the available options. Nevertheless, the comprehensive ADAS suite has been refreshed to incorporate new systems such as the Intelligent Around View Monitor.

Nissan has eliminated the control for the electric sliding doors from the third row but has added an optional 15.6-inch rear seat monitor for passenger entertainment. Additionally, the available captain's chairs no longer come with integrated footrests, requiring those interested to select optional add-ons instead.

For buyers seeking maximum practicality, the Multi Box and Multi Bed trims provide tailored solutions. The Multi Box includes a spacious storage unit in the luggage area that can serve as a bench or table, while the Multi Bed transforms the cabin into a sleeping space, ideal for light camping needs.

Under the hood, the Serena maintains its existing powertrain options, featuring a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine generating 148 hp (110 kW, 150 PS) and an e-Power hybrid system producing a combined output of 161 hp (120 kW, 163 PS). Both powertrains are available in front- or all-wheel drive configurations.

The refreshed Serena is now available for purchase in Japan, with deliveries anticipated to begin in February 2026. Prices start at ¥2,785,200 (approximately $17,700 at current exchange rates) for the base gasoline model, reaching up to ¥5,099,600 (around $32,400) for the hybrid e-4ORCE Multi-Bed Autech version.

Its primary competitors are the Toyota Noah and Voxy, the Honda Step WGN, and the rugged-looking Mitsubishi Delica D:5.
