BMW has introduced a collection of new in-car applications for its M models, aimed at enhancing driver involvement and fully utilizing its latest operating system. This rollout begins with the iX3 featuring the M Sport Package or M Sport Package Pro, with plans for broader availability across the entire M lineup.
These updates add a more interactive dimension to BMW’s performance division, providing real-time feedback and customized data visuals for drivers.
The apps represent the first series of digital improvements directly linked to the new BMW operating system, tailored to the driving experiences that M owners typically pursue.
At the forefront is the M Cockpit app, which offers a comprehensive stream of dynamic vehicle information while in motion. The data includes details on chassis performance, powertrain statistics, and geolocation information.
Essential metrics will display tire pressure and temperature, real-time horsepower and torque outputs, steering angle, elevation, and a G-meter. Drivers can customize up to five dashboards, arranging data relevant to their driving preferences.
Acceleration, Measured and Recorded
Additionally, a second app known as M Drag Meter has been launched. While specifically designed for drag racing, it can also be utilized in various other scenarios. It measures acceleration and deceleration rates, as well as driver reaction times from a standstill.
Like the M Cockpit, the Drag Meter allows customization, enabling drivers to choose the metrics and speed ranges they wish to monitor.
Another new feature for BMW M models is the M Channel app. This dedicated media channel offers on-demand BMW M video content accessible on the central display. It includes various how-to videos, motorsport footage, and engaging stories for customers.
BMW is also broadening its digital environment beyond the vehicle. Beginning in Germany, owners of M models manufactured from 2014 onwards will gain access to the new BMW M Community within the My BMW App.
This platform offers members exclusive partner promotions, invitations to special events, and the option to communicate directly with other M owners.
“The passion for sporty and highly dynamic driving is what fuels the BMW M brand,” said Sylvia Neubauer, vice president for brand, customers, and sales at BMW M GmbH.
“Our new BMW M in-car apps provide drivers with even deeper insights into their vehicles and broaden potential uses, making the joy of driving more tangible in daily life,” she added.
