      Mecum is auctioning the vehicle from the private collection of the Day Family.

      The Chevrolet Bel Air remains one of the most iconic names in American automotive history. Although the model has undergone significant changes over the years, there are still remarkable examples seen cruising on the streets or captivating audiences at weekend car shows. However, finding one as pristine and impressive as this one would be quite a challenge.

      What you’re looking at is a 1967 Bel Air Wagon that has been extensively modified, not only for added power under the hood but also to ensure it turns heads wherever it goes.

      It is set to be auctioned through Mecum as part of the Day Family Classic Car Collection sale in January. There’s no current estimate on its potential selling price, but given the level of work done, it’s safe to assume it won’t come cheap.

      What makes this vehicle stand out? First, take a look under the hood. It boasts a new 502 cubic-inch (8.2-liter) V8 crate engine paired with an upgraded automatic transmission.

      There’s no official power figure available for this engine, but crate motors like this can easily produce over 600 hp without any forced induction. That performance level is comparable to an Audi RS6 Avant, but this power is packaged in a mid-1960s wagon sized like a small land yacht, making it impressively intimidating.

      The exterior of the Chevy has also been revamped. It’s now finished in a custom blend of Orange and Gold Pearl. The original door handles have been removed, and both the front and rear bumpers feature a fresh chrome finish.

      The chrome theme continues with the wheels, which are complemented by upgraded SSBC brakes with four-piston calipers. The ride height has been lowered, giving the Bel Air a more aggressive appearance than anything that rolled out of the factory.

      Then there’s the interior. It features a mix of orange and cream vinyl, complete with new lap harnesses. The audio system has also been modernized, featuring a custom head unit and upgraded speakers.

      An inspection of the odometer shows the car has been driven just under 8,000 miles (12,800 km), although it’s uncertain whether this reflects the original mileage or, as is more likely, the distance driven since the engine was swapped.

      Whether you’re a fan of vintage wagons or simply someone who enjoys horsepower with a tailgate, this Bel Air is no joke. It’s loud, low, and boldly orange. Check out the full listing here.
