The 2026 Ram 1500 revives the V8 allure and connection that the Hurricane engine cannot match, but you'll find yourself paying more than just the purchase price.

PROS ›› Powerful V8, interior quality, responsive throttle CONS ›› Lower towing capacity, fuel-inefficient engine, high cost

More than a year ago, Ram embarked on a bold new path. The update of the 1500 marked a significant shift for the brand known for its iconic V8 engines, introducing new trim levels, advanced technology, and a move away from the Hemi in favor of the new Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six. Ram made it clear: this was the engine of the future.

The 3.0-liter engine garnered attention for its power, fuel efficiency (in comparison to the V8), and smooth performance on the road. On paper, it appeared to be a win-win. However, many fans expressed dissatisfaction, perceiving it as a departure from the identity of the brand.

For the 2026 model year, Ram is once again heeding the desires of its fans by reintroducing the legendary Hemi to its lineup. In fact, we recently concluded a week of testing it in a Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn, which had a starting price of $89,380, including destination and delivery fees.

      Quick Facts

During our week of testing, we utilized the truck's bed, transported various building supplies, and drove friends and family around town. We even ventured onto some dirt and gravel roads.

It's evident that offering a Hemi V8 will benefit Ram, as this is what their customers desire. But is the choice worth it beyond a sense of nostalgia? Continue reading to find out.

      Styling

If you've followed our previous reviews of the latest Ram model, you’re likely familiar with the truck's appearance. The brand hasn’t made drastic visual changes for this relatively new generation of the 1500. Instead, it features subtle refinements compared to its predecessor.

The front now boasts a cleaner look with a slightly redesigned grille and more purposeful lighting elements. Notably, the headlamps and signature daytime running lights have a sharper appearance. The side profile remains familiar: long, muscular, and assertive, with prominent wheel arches and angular lines that give the 1500 a purposeful stance. Select trims feature subtle bright accents for added visual appeal.

For those accustomed to full-size pickups, the 2026 Ram maintains immediate recognition while avoiding a dated aesthetic.

At the rear, the taillights mirror the detailing found in the headlights. Dual exhaust tips are standard with the Hemi and are also prevalent across the inline-six series. Ram has updated the plastic fender cladding for a more seamless integration with the sheet metal.

Across the truck, there are two subtle references to the V8 under the hood. Each fender displays a small badge that Ram calls the "symbol of protest," incorporating a Ram’s head into a V8 engine design. These badges are the only indications that this is a Hemi rather than a Hurricane.

      Interior

Upon entering, the 2026 Ram 1500 Hemi upholds a tradition that places Ram among the leaders in full-size pickup interiors. The materials used are above standard expectations, featuring soft-touch panels, leather-wrapped surfaces, and well-executed stitching that conveys quality without being ostentatious.

The controls are intuitive, tactile, and easy to operate, even in dim lighting. The center stack has seen minimal revisions, but the updates enhance functionality instead of just aesthetics. Seating is also commendable; while our test truck came with eight-way adjustable bucket seats, Ram offers versions with massage functions for an additional cost.

Rear passengers benefit from heated seats, substantial legroom, and good headroom. Consistent with other high-trim 1500 models, the rear seats can comfortably accommodate adults on long journeys, with ample storage options throughout the cabin.

The layout of the center console, glovebox, and door pockets is intelligent, providing various spaces for stowing daily items.

Technology plays a significant role in the interior experience. Our Hemi-equipped test truck featured a 14.4-inch vertically-oriented touchscreen at the heart of Ram's Uconnect infotainment system. It remains quick, responsive, and highly functional.

The front passenger has access to a dedicated secondary screen, allowing for independent media control or navigation input.

A customizable digital gauge cluster offers a wealth of information, while a heads-up display provides useful data without diverting attention from driving. The steering wheel controls, now complemented with leather and genuine wood accents, make interaction with these systems intuitive.

Storage innovation is also noteworthy. Ram's 60/40 split tailgate is a standout feature, providing flexibility for bed loading. The bed can handle up to 1,520 pounds of payload, and buyers have the option for RamBox compartments with lockable storage and external power access.
