Considering a Ford GT? If you prefer them without stripes—or if you’re a fan of Paul Walker—and are willing to spend a significant amount, the red 2005 GT from Walker’s collection is currently for sale on Bring a Trailer. Expect it to fetch a hefty price.
So, how high will the bids go? This particular car was sold for almost half a million dollars at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Car Week auction in 2021. As of this writing, the highest bid has already surpassed $560,000. Those familiar with Bring a Trailer know that nothing is set in stone until the last two minutes. For those unversed in the process, think of it like the closing moments of an NFL game: they can often stretch out much longer than expected.
The connection to Walker adds value to this car, but it’s not the only factor. If you check the GT’s auction results page on BaT, you’ll notice that none have sold for under a quarter million in almost five years. The latest sale was a 2006 model with 32,000 miles, which went for $210,000 at the end of 2020. The highest-priced versions feature the iconic Gulf livery; one example sold for $850,000 last August. If you’re hoping for an affordable, accessible “modern” supercar, this isn’t it.
Beyond its history, there isn’t much to offer with this specific GT. It comes with an extra set of wheels and an SCT OBDII-style performance tuner; while the latter might not inspire much confidence, if you thought a vibrant red supercar with a “Fast & Furious” license plate frame could have gone its whole life without any modifications under the hood, you might need to adjust your expectations for used cars.
This auction has just two days remaining. Will Walker’s spirit help it approach the million-dollar mark? Unlikely, but stranger occurrences have taken place.
