The 2026 Audi models are set to feature tangible steering controls, new driving modes, and enhanced technological capabilities.
Audi reintroduces physical steering controls for its entire 2026 lineup.
The Dynamic Plus mode enhances the handling in the S5 and S6 e-tron.
An autonomous lane-change capability is added to Audi's advanced driver-assistance features.
Audi is rolling out numerous enhancements for the 2026 model year, including the A5, A6, Q5, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron. These changes go beyond mere software adjustments or safety modifications. The manufacturer states that these updates aim to enhance the driving experience in some of its most favored models.
However, Audi has not confirmed whether these alterations will be available for American customers, leaving the U.S. lineup unchanged for the time being.
What Changes Can We Expect Inside?
The most significant changes occur within the vehicles. Similar to Volkswagen, Audi recognizes that customers have not fully embraced capacitive buttons on steering wheels. Starting in 2026, all affected models will feature a redesigned steering wheel equipped with two physical scroll controls, reinstating the tactile feedback that many drivers appreciate.
S5 and S6 e-tron owners can look forward to the addition of a Dynamic Plus driving mode, which Audi claims will enhance the driving dynamics of both vehicles, permitting controlled oversteer while utilizing their advanced quattro all-wheel drive systems and brake torque vectoring.
For all models built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the regenerative braking system will undergo further refinement. This will enable drivers to utilize true one-pedal driving, allowing the vehicle to come to a smooth stop without engaging the traditional brakes.
Enhanced Technology
Audi is also set to introduce an upgraded version of its driver-assistance system across its PPE and PPC models. Starting next year, these vehicles will feature an autonomous lane-change function that allows the driver to simply activate the turn signal, prompting the car to change lanes automatically.
Following in BMW's footsteps, Audi plans to offer a trained parking feature that can autonomously navigate up to 200 meters on private property, retracing a saved route in and out of a parking spot.
Additionally, the new A6 will be equipped with digital matrix LED headlights and digital OLED taillights featuring configurable light signatures starting next year.
Certain models will have the option of an integrated dashcam installed at the base of the rear-view mirror. This 4K camera records both driving and parking footage, providing a built-in alternative to aftermarket solutions.
Audi has also introduced various mood settings, referred to as ‘experience worlds,’ within the cabin, which adjust interior lighting, audio, climate controls, and massage features. Moreover, updates to the onboard gaming system now allow controllers to connect via Bluetooth.
