You might remember a few years ago when one fortunate enthusiast managed to purchase a well-used Acura NSX from CarMax for just $30,000. The NSX featured in today’s article is quite different—in fact, it’s the total opposite, as we’re looking at a 1995 NSX-R in the iconic Championship White, with only around 12,000 miles on the clock.
This NSX, currently available for bidding on Bring a Trailer, is set to go to the highest bidder on November 25. As I write this on Saturday afternoon, the bidding has already reached $388,000 after 10 bids.
Indeed, the price might cause some discomfort, even for fans of these cars—but it’s not unexpected. The NSX-R was priced at about $92,000 when it debuted in Japan, which, when adjusted for inflation, amounts to approximately $205,000. Ultimately, this vehicle is likely to sell for well above $388K, especially since it’s an “R” version, and Honda only produced 483 of these before the NSX received its mid-cycle updates.

For those who may not know, the NSX-R took Honda’s everyday supercar and made it a little less suitable for everyday use. While the NSX was already lightweight, the Type R version dropped an additional 265 pounds by eliminating features like air conditioning, power leather seats, sound insulation, and the audio system, among others. In total, these cars weighed just over 2,700 pounds.
Honda also enhanced the chassis for improved stability at high speeds on the track, rather than prioritizing on-road comfort. There were numerous modifications made to address the car’s challenging handling characteristics, including the installation of stiffer front sway bars, springs, and dampers. The powertrain saw fewer changes, but with an increased final drive ratio, the NSX-R could accelerate quicker, though this came at the cost of top speed.

Some alterations have reportedly been made to this vehicle over the last three decades, including an aftermarket exhaust system, though it appears the original exhaust is also included in the sale.
What do you think this NSX-R will fetch? Just last May, a post-facelift NSX-R sold for $1,060,516, setting a record for both that model and for Honda as a whole. Given that this example has a few thousand more miles, its final price may not be too far off.
