Genesis Created the G90 Performance Wagon That BMW and Mercedes Never Attempted | Carscoops

The Korean brand appears to be committed to expanding the G90 lineup.

Genesis has introduced the G90 Wingback concept at a Magma event in France. This model is a wagon variation of the G90 sedan, featuring performance enhancements. It follows the earlier G90 Coupe and Convertible concepts revealed this year.

This week, Genesis attracted attention with its mid-engined Magma GT concept, showcased alongside the forthcoming production 2027 GV60 Magma performance electric vehicle. The two concepts were highlighted at a special event held at France’s Circuit Paul Ricard, accompanied by an unexpected addition: the G90 Wingback concept.

This new model is a wagon based on the flagship G90 sedan, envisioning what a BMW 7-Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz S-Class Estate, or Audi A8 Avant might look like if such variations were created.

The concept is intriguing on its own, but Genesis has also incorporated visual, performance, and chassis enhancements from its Magma division to boost its appeal.

The front design features a streamlined grille and an aggressive bumper with diamond-pattern intake vents. The side vents indicate that the front fenders are wider than the standard model, accommodating larger alloy wheels fitted with performance tires.

In line with any appropriate sports wagon, the reimagined roofline and rear profile are standout features. A ducktail spoiler sits above the full-width LED taillights, complemented by a distinct roof spoiler. Underneath, a rear diffuser is designed to frame four exhaust tips.

Genesis has not yet disclosed technical specifications for the concept, but the lower stance compared to the sedan suggests some modifications to the chassis. There is also a reasonable assumption that a more powerful engine could be included.

      Will It Move into Production?

This attractive wagon follows the positive reception of the G90 Coupe and Convertible concepts introduced in April 2025, as part of Genesis's discrete effort to enhance its premium lineup, although none of these models have yet reached dealerships.

Currently, the company has not announced any production plans, leaving the future of the G90 Wingback uncertain. We would be pleasantly surprised if Genesis decided to move forward with it.

As full-size luxury sedans face significant challenges, with declining sales in many markets and brands like Lexus withdrawing from the segment, it is hard to envision a wagon like this evolving into more than an engineering exercise or a brief, limited production run. Only time will reveal whether this expectation holds true.

We have contacted Genesis for further information and will provide updates as they become available.
