Ford Broncos Are Going Idle and Failing to Start | Carscoops
Nearly 230,000 Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVs are being recalled to address an issue with their gauge clusters.
Ford is recalling more than 101,000 Broncos and 128,600 Bronco Sports due to potential faults in the digital gauges and warning lights of the MY25-26 SUVs. Owners of affected Broncos will need to have their software updated at a Ford dealership.
This recall adds to Ford's increasing challenges in 2025, impacting almost 230,000 of its latest Broncos and Bronco Sports. The problem is related to their digital instrument clusters, which may sometimes fail to display any information when the vehicle is started.
Picture turning the ignition and seeing only a blank black screen where the speedometer, warning lights, and essential vehicle information should appear. This is not ideal while driving, whether on the highway or elsewhere.
The issue arises from a software glitch that can occur during the system's sleep sequence. An interruption can lead to a memory protection fault, preventing the screen from activating the next time the SUV is started.
Ford states that this issue is serious enough to erase all information displayed until the system reboots itself.
The recall impacts 101,002 Broncos and 128,607 Bronco Sports manufactured from the end of spring 2024 to early November 2025. This means that many very new SUVs are potentially on the road with non-functional digital displays.
While there have been no crashes or injuries reported due to this glitch, the lack of essential gauges significantly increases the risk of missing important alerts.
The positive aspect is that resolving the issue does not involve tools, new parts, or extensive dashboard removal. However, the downside is that the necessary software update cannot be performed remotely, requiring all 230,000 owners to arrange a visit to their dealership once Ford begins reaching out to them in early December.
More Recalls on the Horizon
In 2025, Ford has been issuing recalls consistently, addressing various mechanical and electrical issues across its lineup.
While we have reported incidents involving wheels detaching and components igniting, this particular recall is relatively mild. Nevertheless, it is a reminder that advanced dashboards—and advanced technology in general—can have both advantages and disadvantages.
