A thief in Delaware believed he had executed the perfect robbery until the GPS of the stolen vehicle exposed him, swiftly ending his spree.
A 29-year-old man broke into state offices and took a Mustang Mach-E.
The suspect utilized a sewer lid to gain entry and subsequently crashed the stolen electric vehicle.
Authorities employed the EV's GPS tracker to locate both the vehicle and the suspect.
Isiah Worthy, a 29-year-old man in Delaware, has been apprehended for the intricate theft of a state-owned Ford Mustang Mach-E, an incident that could easily inspire a Hollywood movie.
Police identified Worthy as the individual suspected of breaking into two state office buildings using a steel sewer door, seemingly unaware of the extensive surveillance present in government facilities.
Local authorities reported that around 3:50 p.m., they received a notification about a burglary alarm triggered at 600 South Bar Road in Dover. Upon arrival, they discovered a masked man had forced his way into the facility with a steel sewer lid, causing property damage and stealing money.
During the investigation of the break-in, police found that the same suspect had also entered the Office of Management and Budget – Fleet Services facility on the same premises, again using the sewer lid. While inside, he allegedly stole key fobs and drove off in a Ford Mustang Mach-E.
However, his escape was not seamless; he collided with two parked vehicles while trying to flee and abandoned a bank bag filled with stolen cash in the parking lot.
How Police Located Him
Tracking down the 29-year-old was straightforward for law enforcement. Unbeknownst to him, the Mustang Mach-E was equipped with a GPS tracker, which led them to its abandoned location on Carpenter’s Bridge Road. As police searched the area, they spotted a man who matched the suspect's description walking along a nearby road. He was arrested, and further searches uncovered additional stolen funds in his possession.
Isiah Worthy faces multiple charges, including two counts of third-degree burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools, wearing a disguise during a felony, theft under $1,500, and three counts of criminal mischief.
