BYD's Expansion in Europe Is Poised for Significant Growth | Carscoops
The Chinese company is set to launch a new factory in Hungary soon, which will support its growth in Europe.
BYD plans to double its European presence next year, aiming for 2,000 outlets.
Currently, the brand operates in 29 European countries and has seen its sales triple this year.
The automaker is also looking at new manufacturing facilities in Spain and Turkey.
Not long ago, BYD vehicles were uncommon on European roads. However, in the last five years, the car manufacturer has transformed into a global force, entering new markets faster than any rival. In the upcoming year, its models are expected to be even more frequently seen across Europe.
According to reports, despite the additional burden of European tariffs on vehicles made in China, BYD is determined to maintain its momentum. The company sees Europe as a significant growth area and plans to establish around 1,000 retail locations on the continent by the end of the year. This achievement is merely a stepping stone toward larger ambitions for 2026.
How ambitious is BYD?
At a recent Frankfurt event, Maria Grazia Davino, BYD's regional managing director for Europe, shared the company’s forthcoming strategies. She stated that BYD intends to expand its operations in the region next year, emphasizing that such growth is crucial for attracting customers in a competitive environment.
“To compete effectively, we need to be close to European customers,” Davino said, as quoted by Reuters.
Operating across 29 European markets, BYD is implementing what Davino refers to as a “long-term localization strategy.” This approach focuses on manufacturing a greater number of vehicles within Europe, thereby decreasing dependence on imports and enhancing connections with local economies. A significant part of this strategy involves a new manufacturing hub in Hungary, which will open soon.
Thus far this year, BYD's sales in Europe have more than tripled, totaling 80,807 vehicles within the first nine months.
While the Hungarian factory is not yet operational, BYD is also considering potential factories in Turkey and Spain.
“Establishing operations in a mature market like Europe is a crucial endeavor. It necessitates expertise, commitment, investments, and resources at every level,” Davino added.
