New Genesis GV90 Unveils Its Large Coach Doors Inspired by Rolls-Royce | Carscoops
The top-tier electric crossover is set to eliminate the B-pillar and will have a large side opening.
The Genesis GV90 has been spotted with its coach doors open.
This crossover does away with a B-pillar, similar to the Neolun concept.
A completely new platform may support the EV at its launch.
Development of the Genesis GV90 has been lengthy, but progress is still being made on the coach door model. However, the extended timeline seems to be frustrating staff, as some chose to disregard a warning that stated “Do not open doors!”
Due to their oversight, spy photographers captured images of the doors in operation. As anticipated, the doors open and close automatically, making entry and exit seamless.
Notably, the luxury crossover does not feature a B-pillar, resulting in an unobstructed side opening. Although our view is somewhat obstructed, this is a noteworthy development, as even Rolls-Royce models have a substantial pillar dividing the front and rear passenger areas.
This feature was first shown on the Neolun concept, and Genesis previously mentioned that B-pillarless coach doors offer “much more open interior space” while enhancing “convenient passenger access.” At that time, they suggested that the design had progressed to a stage where it could be used in production models.
It certainly seems that Genesis is planning to transition the conventional B-pillar support to the doors. As part of this update, we can observe prominent locking mechanisms on both the door sill and ceiling. The front part of the rear door also appears considerably thicker than the remainder of the panel.
In addition to providing a look at the doors in operation, the latest images indicate that the crossover will have power-adjustable front and rear seats with numerous adjustment options. We also notice blue and purple leather, along with metallic accents and contrasting piping.
Previous spy shots have revealed a sophisticated second row equipped with captain’s chairs separated by a large center console, which appears to include a wireless smartphone charger and an integrated tablet.
Regarding its platform and powertrain, the company hasn't released much information recently, but the GV90 is anticipated to be built on the new eM platform. This architecture is expected to be an evolution of the current E-GMP platform while integrating the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology.
Although full specifications remain undisclosed, the GV90 is expected to be more advanced than the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. The latter comes with a 110.3 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing up to 422 hp (315 kW / 429 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. With that powertrain, the model achieves a range of 311 miles (501 km).
