**PROS**: Premium interior, comfortable ride, solid safety record

**CONS**: Unknown brand, small boot, limited charging speed

Chinese car manufacturers are releasing new and updated models at an astonishing rate, but occasionally one stands out for reasons beyond just being novel. The Zeekr X is one such model. A sibling to the Volvo EX30, it boasts bolder styling, a bit of flair, and an assurance of high-quality finishes that imply it aims higher than standard Chinese electric vehicles.

The Geely-owned brand has recently entered the Greek market, allowing me the opportunity to explore the compact Zeekr X and, importantly, take it for a spin.

      **QUICK FACTS**

      * Manufacturer | **Prices in Greece include a €3,000 local incentive for EVs

The X debuted in late 2023 as the entry-level electric vehicle in Zeekr’s expanding lineup. It has already seen updates in China with more powerful motors and new color and trim options, although these changes have yet to reach international markets.

Like its relatives, the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1, it is built on Geely’s SEA platform, which also supports the Lynk & Co 02. The Zeekr X even gained recognition as Euro NCAP’s safest electric vehicle, outperforming pricier competitors such as the Porsche Macan. However, this compact SUV offers more than just an impressive safety rating.

      **Striking Appearance, Familiar Features**

Zeekr is a relatively new brand, having launched in 2021. Its design language shows a clear resemblance to its Geely counterpart Lynk & Co, yet Zeekr is positioned higher within the hierarchy, aiming above Volvo and Polestar in terms of its premium intentions.

The Zeekr X features a sleek and contemporary exterior that will catch the eye as it passes by. Its “double-edged” headlights, greenhouse, door handles, mirrors, and taillights echo those of the Lynk & Co 02, albeit without the sporty SUV profile.

Other notable design elements include glossy black cladding surrounding the wheel arches and a striking character line that extends to the side windows.

With a length of 4,432 mm, it is 199 mm longer than the Volvo EX30 and 28 mm shorter than the Lynk & Co 02. This positions it squarely among Europe’s compact premium electric SUVs, including the BMW iX1, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Mercedes EQA.

Our press model was the Long Range RWD variant, which seems to hit the sweet spot in the lineup. It combines a single 268 hp (200 kW) motor with a larger 69 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 446 km (277 miles). Visually, it sports 19-inch alloy wheels, while 20-inch wheels are reserved for the 422 hp AWD flagship model.

      **Premium Goals**

Upon opening the frameless doors, it's apparent that this brand aspires to compete with BMW concerning perceived quality. Soft-touch materials adorn most surfaces, enhanced by futuristic ambient lighting and ASMR-friendly switchgear finished in copper.

The configurable switches on the steering wheel provide a nice touch, also serving as physical controls for the A/C, eliminating the need to constantly interact with the screen.

The seats are covered in soft vegan leather and include hard outer shells for a futuristic flair. The dashboard layout is conservative, featuring a 14.6-inch central touchscreen alongside an 8.8-inch instrument cluster.

Additionally, a 24.3-inch augmented reality head-up display helps keep your attention on the road. Featured equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Rear passengers enjoy ample space thanks to the longer wheelbase, offering significantly improved legroom and headroom compared to the Volvo EX30, making it a more comfortable option for adults or small families.

In-car storage is generous, including a multifunctional central armrest. However, the boot's capacity is akin to a subcompact hatchback, measuring 362 liters (12.8 cubic feet), while the minuscule 21 liters (0.4 cubic feet) frunk is primarily for charging cables.

      **Comfort is Key**

My experience behind the wheel was brief, merely a few hours during a local media presentation, sufficient to gauge the Zeekr X's character.

Similar to the Volvo EX30, the impressive SEA platform brings the robustness of larger vehicle segments. It is complemented by a softer suspension setup for enhanced comfort and slightly better soundproofing.

The steering feels great, though I didn't perceive a
