Individual Paid New Porsche 911 Price for a 1992 Mustang Still Encased in Plastic | Carscoops
This 1992 Mustang had an original sticker price of $16,274, but decades later, it sold for many times that amount.
On November 8, 2025, it was reported by Brad Anderson that a flawless 1992 Mustang 5.0 with only 131 miles recently sold for $149,000.
The initial $16,000 price translates to approximately $37,000 today, comparable to a current EcoBoost model.
The vehicle remains encased in plastic and comes with all its original documentation.
It’s not common to find a nearly museum-quality 1992 Ford Mustang 5.0 LX notchback for sale, but one has recently appeared. This incredibly well-preserved model, still covered in its factory plastic and featuring a rich green color, has come onto the market through a dealer in Sewell, New Jersey, looking much like it did over 30 years ago.
It appears flawless, but the price tag may cause even the most passionate Mustang enthusiasts to do a double-take, possibly even a triple take, to confirm they're seeing correctly.
Historically, the V8 muscle car left the showroom in ’92 with a sticker price of $16,274, including options and destination fees ($440). When adjusted for inflation, that amounts to about $37,600 today, similar to what one would pay for a new Mustang EcoBoost Premium.
NJ Truck King is asking an astonishing $149,000 for this vehicle, which is roughly $17,000 more than a brand new Porsche Carrera. Can a Fox-body truly justify such a price? Technically, yes, as the value is determined by what someone is willing to pay. But for many, this price seems excessive.
The main selling point of this Mustang is that it has only been driven 131 miles (211 km) since it was new. It is likely among the lowest-mileage Mustang Notchbacks of this era currently available in the U.S., and the green paint looks stunning. There also appears to be no exterior damage.
Unfortunately, the dealership hasn't provided many images or details about the car aside from these brief clips. We can see that the original window sticker is still attached to the passenger side window, and the seats are covered in plastic. If the interior is anything like the exterior, it should be in nearly pristine condition.
According to the seller, the car includes its original keys, owner's manuals, and title. However, they do not mention how the engine functions or how it has been maintained over the years.
While it has seen very little use, engines generally do not fare well sitting unused for long periods. If this Mustang has been left idle, the next owner should consider giving the engine a thorough inspection, replacing all fluids, and possibly changing the rubber hoses throughout.
Regarding the powertrain, the LX model features a 5.0-liter V8 that produces 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, with a standard 5-speed manual transmission powering the rear wheels.
A quick look at the used market reveals that comparable Fox-body Mustangs usually sell for between $20,000 and $40,000.
However, most of those vehicles have experienced significant mileage and use. Finding one in such untouched condition is exceptionally rare. Still, the $149,000 price seems disconnected from reality, even for a well-preserved example.
Regardless of our opinions, the car did not remain on the market for long. The dealer confirmed it sold this week, serving as a reminder that nostalgia often knows no price limit. Somewhere, a collector deemed owning a perfectly preserved piece of early ’90s Americana worth sacrificing a considerable amount of money.
