This Honda Odyssey Type R equipped with a manual transmission has just elevated every dad to hero status | Carscoops
A uniquely modified Honda Odyssey Type R made its debut at SEMA in Las Vegas.
This vehicle boasts a modified Type R engine combined with a manual transmission.
The distinctive project was developed by Bisimoto and Jordan Distributors.
When people see the terms Odyssey and Type R together, they often think they’re looking at an artistic concept or a fan-made rendering of a high-powered family vehicle. However, this one is very much real, showcased at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
The custom Odyssey Type R isn't an official Honda initiative but rather the work of independent builders Bisimoto and Jordan Distributors. Nonetheless, its design closely resembles what Honda might have produced, although it's certainly too wild for mass production.
The exterior modifications are noticeable yet subtle, featuring glossy black accents and aerodynamic components such as a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear diffuser.
Within that diffuser are three exhaust pipes, confirming that this is no ordinary family minivan. Red Honda emblems and Type R badges are prominently displayed on the grille and tailgate.
Bisimoto equipped the minivan with 19-inch black alloy wheels taken from the Civic Type R. These wheels are complemented by adjustable coilovers that lower the ride height, giving the Odyssey a more aggressive stance that is just shy of ridiculous.
While the visual upgrades are neat, the true excitement lies under the hood. Here, the standard V6 has been replaced with a turbocharged 2.0-liter K20C four-cylinder engine from the Civic Type R. The builders didn't simply swap engines; extensive tuning has boosted the power from 315 horsepower to an impressive 550 horsepower.
What adds further interest to this build is its departure from the production model's configuration. The conventional V6 Odyssey is only available with an automatic transmission, but this Type R conversion includes a proper manual gearbox.
The high-mounted, leather-wrapped shifter and three aluminum pedals ensure that the driver's right hand and left foot are actively engaged. Despite the modifications, the rest of the interior remains largely unchanged: three rows of seats, sliding doors, and the everyday functionality that characterizes the Odyssey.
As with many SEMA creations, the Odyssey Type R will remain a one-off project. Nevertheless, it effectively demonstrates that the essence of a hot hatch can exist in unexpected forms. It transforms the ordinary minivan into something truly thrilling, at least for enthusiasts who believe practicality can come with a turbocharged roar.
